FINAL FANTASY II (U.S) WALKTHROUGH VERSION 1.0 COMPILED BY CHRISTOPHER LEE BOGER leslumens@yahoo.com http://darken.0catch.com/goblin/ggdomain.htm QUICK NOTE: This is my first draft of this faq. It may not be complete in all the little secrets of the game as I know them. It is, as stated, mainly a walkthrough to get you through the game. It will get you to the end of the game and allow you to find all the treasure chests along the way. THE BEGINNING: After the intro, walk around and talk to everyone before going to bed. Take the treasure you see as the man says. Avoid entering the Western tower until you have talked to everyone. Watch the event by walking to your bed in the Western tower. Go into the town of Baron, do some shopping and gather information. Don't forget to search jars for useful items. The secret switch to the inn's treasure room is in the crossed swords. Now walk around and fight to build levels. I usually build to about 3, though it is far from impossible to make it at lower levels. Don't forget to rest up at the inn and save before you enter the cave in the Northwest. CAVE TO MIST VALLEY: There is a treasure chest in the Northwest after crossing the bridge. You'll find another on the ledge North. Don't miss the chest under the bridge before you head for the exit. Grab a chest in the crevice before the exit as well. If you're ready to fight, say yes and begin battle. Don't fight while the Dragon is in mist form. Either heal or press right on the control pad to parry. Beat the Mist Dragon and head for the Village of Mist. You'll be forced into a fight with a green haired girl. Just parry and wait for the inevitable outcome. After the event, head Northeast to reach a village oasis . Watch the event and kick the soldier's butts. (The officer will flee) Now the caller will join with you. Switch her so that she is farther down the party line and possibly in the back row since she is very weak at this point. Now go about town business. (Search, heal, and save) There is nothing in the armor shop you need. The bow and arrows are a good buy for Rydia. Time to carefully build some levels. Remember, Rydia is very weak. It's probably a good idea to have her parry most of the time. Get Rydia to about level-5, then head Northeast to the cave to reach Damcyan Castle. WATERY PASS SOUTH: Head North first and get the chests. If you encounter zombies before you get Tellah and his fire spell, RUN! Your Hero's sword only does 1 point of damage to them. Now head back and cross the bridge to take the chest. Then head North to the old man. Tellah will join your party. His spells will prove useful. Don't miss the two chests in the East before you head for the exit. One contains an Iron Ring which you should equip on Tellah. You'll have to wade into the water to get this chest. On the second level there is a chest to the North before you must head South to continue on. Don't miss the chest on the island before continuing on to the door. Watch the events at the save point beyond the door. Don't forget to save before you leave! In the next section you will find an Ice Rod to equip on Tellah. It increases his attack power and can be used as an item in battle. Head through the door to the next section. Start conserving MP. You'll find two treasure chests if you go South. Head through the door to the next section. Use fire magic against the jellies here. There is a secret passage to your West when you enter this section. Taking this leads you to the door to the next section. Take the chest in front of the door first. The passage that brought you here leads farther North as well. Follow it to a chest with a Leather Helmet and equip Rydia with it, passing her cap to Tellah. Now go back through the door to the next section. Cold magic and Tellah's Ice Rod make short work of Mad Toads. Cold magic will also nuke the Gators. Take the two chests in the West before proceeding East and try to conserve those rare, expensive ethers. Head South for the chests before continuing on and equip the Darkness Sword on Cecil. Go through the door, camp and save outside. Go over the falls. Conserve your MP. Watch out for MP stealing Tiny Mages. Get the two chests in the South and equip Cecil. Go through the door to the next section. Grab the two chests and equip Cecil. Now make sure you are powered up and head toward the mass of writhing tentacles and fight! Use Lit spells and have Cecil smash with his new sword. Watch Rydia's HP closely! Proceed through the water fall and head for the castle. After the events, go to the castle. Don't go directly in. Head East first and enter the small building for treasure. Equip Rydia with the Bow and Ruby Ring. You can equip Tellah with the Leather Helmet but there is really no need to. Now enter the castle. Don't miss the one chest that isn't empty on the floor full of chests. Watch the events (Tellah will leave now. Aren't you glad you didn't waste a helm on him?) Don't take off in the Hovercraft the moment you get it. Go back to the top floor and use the pots of recovery to regain your full strength. Now head to Kaipo in the Hovercraft. Hock off all your spare items here and replenish Rydia's arrows. Stock up on heals and cures if you need to. Now level up your bard around Damcyan. Use the pots of recovery instead of inns to save cash. Three or four levels should be sufficient. Now jump in the Hovercraft and take the Eastern shoals to the cave of the Antlion. LAIR OF THE ANTLION: There are two chests to the West. Head South and West for two more chests. Ice magic nukes Turtles. Use Lit on Cremes. Head East and North under a bridge for another chest. Head through the door at the South. Take the chest for a life potion. Go through the door to gain a Charm Harp for your bard. Go North to reach a door leading to a save point and 3 chests. Gather two more chests to the West. Go down the stairs South to the next section. Just head straight down, but make sure you're ready for battle just before you descend to the final ring with boulders in it. Just beat on the Antlion and watch your HP. No form of magic seems especially useful. Exit the cave and head for Kaipo. Talk to Rosa and select Sandruby when your item list comes up. Rosa is healed and joins your party as a white wizard. That night watch the event and fight the Water Hag with Edward to increase his courage (and gain a load of experience). Watch the rest of the events. Put Rosa and Rydia both in the back since they are weak and both use bows and magic anyway. Purchase any items you need and save. None of the armor will do Rosa any good in Kaipo either. You might want to trade the crossbow to Rosa since she is the better markswoman. Cross the shoals again and go past the Antlion nest to reach Mount Hobs. MOUNT HOBS: After an event Rydia will learn the spell of fire and open a passage for you. The fire spell makes short work of most of the undead here, which your Knight can't touch. Arrows make short work of flying critters especially with Rosa's aim command. The West door leads to a save point and several chests. The East door leads farther on. Take the chest in the next section. Don't equip those white arrows yet, but save them for later. Just North you'll see someone fighting. Watch the event then help Yang defeat his enemies. Yang joins up. Head back to the save point, rest up and save, or just continue on and do it outside. The next section isn't long and there are no chests to go after. Continue on and exit the Mount. Follow the winding peninsula and then head South and East to reach Fabul. FABUL: Use the inn to recharge and buy any items you need. Buy up those Black Armaments and Thunder Claws for Yang. You'll find a door to the South after you ascend to the next level. Take it and explore the towers for goodies in chests and jars. After you finish your exploration, and possibly buy some stuff you couldn't afford before, go out and save your game. Now go talk to the King. Fight the series of battles. Generals will run when their fighters are defeated. In the end the crystal will be taken by Golblez and a turncoat Kain. Rosa will also be captured. Search the jar just outside the crystal room door for a cure potion and step on a switch just opposite the pot to open a door. Follow the secret passage to three chests and equip the Knight. Run around and talk to everyone, especially the King, the rest at the inn. The next morning the King will give you a ship and a Black Sword for the Knight. Don't forget to save when you walk out, then head for your ship in the East. Watch the event. The ship will be attacked by Leviatan. Rydia will vanish over the side and Yang will dive in to help her. The ship is pulled into the sea and you wake up on the beach alone. Walk to the village of Mystidia nearby. If you get turned into a toad, talk to the same man again to reverse it. You can also get turned into a pig and poisoned by talking to the dancer or the bartender at the inn. Go talk to the town elder. Two young wizards will join you for the trek, one black and one white. Get all the Gaea Gear, Fire Rod, and Cure Staff for the twins before you leave town. Use cure staffs to do a small heal on everyone in the party during battle. Fire Rods cast the fire 1 spell. If you don't have enough cash, build it. Also charge up on items. It might not be a bad idea to wander around the lower levels of Mount Ordeal building gold and levels for a while before you ascend to the top. Mount Ordeals won't be hard to find. There's only one path. The Black Sword's normal attack wipes out Ravens pretty well. The Mount is the one in the clearing of the forest to the South at the end of the path. There's a Chocobo Forest South of the Mount for quick rides to town. There's a White Chocobo here as well for restoring MP. Handy for avoiding a return to town just to rest. MT ORDEALS: Palom will clear you a path through the fire. Fire works well against most enemies while your sword is near useless. The exact opposite applies to Spirits who are healed by fire. Grab the two chests then go through the door. At the top of this section you will encounter Tellah, who will rejoin the party. It might not be a bad idea to return to town and outfit him with gear before you proceed any farther. It's also a good idea to switch places on him and the white mage twin since he has more hit points. Head through the door. There's a chest to the West in this section. There's another just before you reach the door. Proceed through the door to the next section. Hit the save point, rest, recharge, and save. When you reach the bridge, you'll be confronted by Milon, the Fiend of Earth. Fire spells will make quick work of his Ghast minions while you whack him down with your sword. Fire doesn't exactly do him any good either. Once you've beaten him head back to the save point. Cross the bridge and Milon will appear once more. Same weaknesses this time as well. Run back and save again, then head into the structure at the summit. Watch the events and become a Paladin by simply keeping yourself healed up, not attacking your dark side. Save again and head down. Ice magic works well against Liliths. Head back and talk to the elder. He'll unseal the Serpent Road to Baron. Don't forget to buy all the Paladin Armor before you leave, your hero is nearly buck naked right now! Save before you leave as well. Head to Baron on the Serpent Road and talk to some people. You'll find out Yang has amnesia and is fighting for Baron. Fight his goons then fight him. A couple of good whacks will restore his memory. He'll rejoin the party and provide you with the Baron Key. Go to the weapons shop when you wake up and use the key to enter. You can get a Thunder Rod for Palom and equip Yang who is near naked and weaponless. The Karate Armor is also good for your three wizards. If you wish to take the time to gather that much gold. Don't head into the underpass until Yang is equipped. You can use the Serpent Road to reach Mystidia and gain gold on Mt. Ordeals again. Don't forget to save before you head into the underpass. UNDERPASS: Don't miss the secret passage to the East, immediately after you enter this area. It leads to a chest of gold. There are chests in the South. Follow the series of bridges to reach the next area. Head South first through the secret passage to reach a chest which contains gold. Head South through another secret passage to reach a chest containing a life potion. Now backtrack and head East. Go South and grab the chest on the island. There are some rocks with space between them just North of this island. Take the path between them and head North to the door Follow the path. Just before the door is a secret passage to the West. Take it to a chest, ten head for the door. The doorway you see in the North leads to a save point. There is a secret passage leading to the Ancient Sword on the Eastern side of this room. It isn't as good as Legend except against undead. Rest up and save. Follow the path to the next door. You'll emerge behind Castle Baron. Swim West and South to find an entrance. BARON: When you enter the central court you'll find Baigan, he'll join your group, but the twins sniff him out as a monster and you fight him. Until he uses wall, Virus spell does nice damage. Before going on North to the King's room, head East and take the treasure from the treasure room. The switch is on the wall under a torch. Also go to the East Tower and rob it. Don't forget to check jars. Now go back and enter the King's chamber. Talk to the King and you'll fight Kainazzo, the Fiend of Water. Lit spells not only dissolve his watery barrier, they do great damage. Kick his rear and Cid runs in. Watch the events. The walls will begin to close in, but the twins sacrifice themselves to save you. Then Cid will lead you to the airship. Kain will appear and offer to trade Rosa for the last crystal. Don't take off just yet, though. Head back to the castle and into the basement of the castle. You'll reach a throne room. The King will tell you to go to the Land of Summoned Monsters, then return to him. Now head into town and outfit Cid with Karate Suit. If you want Cid to have better magic resistance, as opposed to defense, buy him a headband as well. Otherwise just wait. Don't forget to save! Now fly North to Village Mist. Enter the house North near where you found Rydia and walk through a secret passage in the fireplace to the chests. Equip Cid with the Ruby Ring. Save the Tiara for later and hock off the clothes. Follow a path through the trees East of the weapons shop to find two items in the grass. There is gold in the grass to the North as well. The shops don't sell anything you need right now. Now head onward to Tororia. If you didn't get the headband for Cid, buy him a Leather Helm here Ruby Armbands are useless for anyone but Cid at this point. Weapons shop is mainly devoted to bow and arrows. A swim up the river North leads you to a path in the trees and a grassy area. Stuff is hidden here. Stock up on any items you might need and gather info. Then head into the castle. Before you see the clerics, check out the basement for some items, and to find Edward. He'll give you the Twin Harp, which will prove very useful. Now go see the clerics. They'll promise to lend you the crystal if you can get it back from the Dark Elf. Metal items will be useless in the cave of the Dark Elf, so you'll need some non-metal equipment. Replace all metal armbands with Ruby ones. Buy your Paladin a bow and some arrows. Gaea Clothing, Karate Suits, Staves, Wooden Hammer, and Yang's Claws are unaffected by the cave. Head North to the Chocobo Forest (You'll have to walk so keep your normal equipment until you reach the Chocobo Forest.) There are several carrots hidden here along secret paths. Jump on a Black Chocobo and fly to the Dark Elf's cave on an island to the East. CAVE MANGES: It's wiser to go straight to the Dark Elf now and get the chests later when you are fully equipped. So that's how I'm listing it here. Take the first path you see and follow it to the stairs. May as well grab the heal in the chest right next to the stairs before you descend. Head North then West to reach the stairs. The door you see leads to a save point, use it. Follow the bridges to the South passing all doors until you reach the door in the cavernous path (rock on all sides with little spans above you) Take the Charm Claw from the chest to the North and equip it. Continue to the stairs. Cross the bridges and enter the second door. The first door across the bridge to the East is a save point if you need it. Heal up before you confront the Dark Elf. Talking to him starts the confrontation, so you can get in real close before you heal. You can't really do anything until the event activates, so don't fight too hard in the first few rounds. Just let him beat on you until the event pops up. Edward will play a tune, and your Twin Harp will echo it. The music will negate the Dark Elf's ability to manipulate metal, so put on your Paladin Gear and Silver Armbands, then talk to the Elf again and fight! You should kick his rear fairly easily. Walk up and take the crystal, then head back out. Yang's Charm Claw will really kick butt on Ogres, remember that ahead. Take the chest you see in the West, then head back and use the save point if you need it. Now head back through the doorway, and again in the next area. Follow the cavernous path and cross the bridges till you reach the pillar with the door. Enter and take the chests. Head North along the bridges. Save again if you'd like, then hit the stairs. South, then West and you'll find a chest. A door in the North wall in the Northeast heads to a chest. Head back to the stairs in the Southeast. Follow the bridges, making sure to head East at the 3-way intersection for a chest. Then take the Western fork to the stairs out of the cave. Hop back on your Chocobo and return to Tororia. Do any town business, then go talk to the clerics. Kain will inform you to bring the crystal out and get in your airship. Talk to the clerics and get permission to take the treasure in the basement and then do so. Don't forget to stock up, heal up, and save before you board the airship. RESCUE ROSA: Kain will show up and take you to the tower where Rosa is being held. Use Ice magic against the slimes here. There is a chest in the Northwest corner. Take it then proceed to the Northeast corner for the door to the next floor. Equip that Fire Armor on Cid to boost his defense rating. There is a chest on this floor just East of the second door. It has a Flamadog guarding it, but contains the Fire Sword for your Paladin. After getting and equipping this, hit the door. No chests here, just hit the door by walking all the way around the edge of the floor on this level. Take a path to the North when you find one. Each of the three doors leads to chests. Put the Wizard Shirt on Tellah. Equip Cid with the Earth Hammer, naturally. Equip Yang with the Poison Claw. Don't miss the chest South of the Claw chest containing a Fire Shield to equip on the Paladin. After you've gotten all the chests, head East to the final door. The first door you see is a save point, by all means, use it! When you reach the second door you'll encounter minions of the Air Fiend. Nuke the sisters one at a time. I always go Fat, Skinny, Shorty for my order. Very wise to go back and save before you continue on. Strip all items off Tellah before you go through the door, Trust me! Tellah will spend his life using Meteo to weaken Golblez. The mind control over Kain will be broken and he will lead you to Rosa if you go talk to him. Then he and Rosa join the party. Equip Rosa before you go anywhere, especially with the Tiara. Now you must fight Vavalis the Fiend of Air. Just beat on her with your weapon wielders and have Rosa keep everyone healed. Have Kain jump on his each and every turn. The tower will begin to fall and Rosa will use Exit to get you out. Kain will give you the Magma Key. Cid will bring the Enterprise back by remote control. Stock up and save, then hit the airship and head for Agart which is due South. There is a cure2 in the grass at the Western edge of town, other than that look in the telescope for the only other real offering of this town. The weapon shop has some White Arrows, and the armor shop offers Iron goods which are good for Cid. Remember, he can't equip a shield with the two-handed hammers. Now just stock up, rest up, and save. Then walk to the enshrined well and search it. Use the Magma Key to open the path. Walk outside the village and you will see a huge hole has opened. Save your game and board the airship. Fly over the hole and press A to enter. THE UNDERWORLD: After the event you'll be outside the Dwarf Castle. If Cid is wearing the Fire Armor, take it off him before you enter! A pot near the Inn counter contains some gold. Other than that, the only thing you can reach at the moment is the King. Save before you go talk to him. Cid will temporarily leave the party, and you'll have to confront some dolls trying to thieve the crystal. First take out all the Brenas to eliminate some enemy attacks. Before you can wipe out the dolls, they'll turn into Calbrena. Keep whacking her and watch your HP to defeat her. Golblez will then appear and you'll have to fight him. He'll use a powerful hold spell and call a beast that uses a strong death spell. Suddenly a Mist Dragon appears and destroys his summoned beast and Rydia appears to aid you, releasing you from your paralysis. Raise everyone and keep em up while Rydia summons beasts to help defeat Golblez. Rydia has been in the Land of Summoned Monsters and has grown up, becoming a powerful caller and black mage, but losing her white magic. She rejoins the party. Golblez turns into a crawling claw and steals the crystal. It is decided that you'll raid the Tower of Babil and steal back the crystals while Golblez goes after the last one. The King tells you there is a passage leading there from the basement. Go save before you head into the basement. Also before you leave, check the castle for items. I read somewhere that if you walk through too many doors here it will teleport you somewhere else, without an airship to get back, so go out and save every so often as you explore. The Flame Spear is a good buy for Kain. Darkness Arrows are also a good buy for Rosa. Switch Rydia and Kain so she is in the back row. Wizard Helm and Shirts are good for Rydia, Fire items are good for the Paladin and Kain. You can stock up on cabins and cure2's as well. You can find a Dwarf Axe in a chest, sell it for dough since it's attack % is low. You can find a Strength Bracelet for the Paladin atop the East Tower, as well as other goodies. Some careful searching of jars will net you gold in the West Tower. Some tricky walking through secret passages will net you a chest of goodies at the top as well. Go North when you walk under the span just West of the stairs to get to three other chests. Equip Yang with the Black Belt Shirt. Talk to a Dwarf in front of a bookshelf in the basement below the inn to open a passage under the castle. Grab some cabins from chests here. There is a pot of recovery just before the stairs leading to the surface. Make your way toward the Tower of Babil. When you first see the tanks, make sure you're ready to enter. If you're not, go back and prepare some more. TOWER OF BABIL: You can find some Ice Arrows on the first floor in the West, not a bad idea for Rosa to equip for a while here. There is also an ether in the East. Now head through the door to floor 2. Near the door is a Bandanna for Yang. The first door you see leads to a monster guarded chest containing the Blizzard Spear for Kain. On the right after this is another monster chest with the Ice Bland for the Paladin. Now through the Final door to the next level. Near the door is the Cat Claw for Yang. Take off the Charm Claw for better average hit %. There is a cure2 in the East and a life down South. Then take the door you can reach near the life potion. Archer Bow is near the door here for Rosa. Use fire against Tofus. Grab more goodies in a chest and backtrack. Go North of the door where you first entered the level to reach this floor's other door. The first door is a save spot, and we all know what that means. Then head across the narrow area and turn South. There is a monster chest in the first room containing the Ice Shield for the Paladin or Kain. The Northern room has a monster chest with he Ice Armor for the Paladin or Kain. Why not go back and save that cool gear before you continue to the final door in the Northwest? A long walk on a twisting path will net you some GP. Pass up the bridge to the North and continue on. Net a cure2 in the East. Head through the door here, and again in the next area. The doorway at the Northeast is a save point, good idea. Heading South will get you an ether2. Go through the last door to reach level 8. Make sure you're ready for battle before you cross the bridge. Then fight Dr. Lugae's creation Balnob. Beat up Balnob first, then beat on the Doc, and finally on the combination Balnab-Z. Finally kill off Lugae in his special form. Titan seems effective. You'll get the Tower Key. This goes to that Northern bridge you passed up a while back. Don't forget to hit the save point on the way back. Just before the door, strip Yang of his equipment. Then use the Tower Key on the door. Fight the Imps and the cannon will power up. Yang sacrifices himself to stop the cannon. Now head out of the Tower. Just before you cross the final bridge to exit, Golblez will destroy the bridge under you. Cid will rush to the rescue in the airship. The Red Wings will attack and Cid will use a bomb to close the hole to the surface, telling you to seek his workers in Baron. Fly to Baron and do any business you need to. Then talk to the workers. They will attach a hook to Enterprise, letting you pick up the Hovercraft and move it. Head to the shoals near Damcyan where you left it and pick it up. Fly West of Agate to reach the ruins of Castle Eblan. CASTLE EBLAN/CAVE EBLAN: Grab goodies from the main hall. Then go grab stuff from the West Tower. The Eastern chest on the first floor is a monster chest (secret passage goes east just before you go through the door) It contains the Slumber Sword. It's not great, but it is sort of neat. Search the Eastern Tower for more goodies. Get the Drain Spear from the chest behind the hole on the second floor. (secret passage starts in Northeast corner) Fall down the hole to get the last chest, then walk South to fall in another hole. Take the two chests in the East, but go out and save before coming back for the Western chest. Return and fight the monsters in the chest for an elixer. (if you can't beat them up, come back later) Save and get on the Hovercraft, riding it over the shoals to Cave Eblan. Grab some shuiriken and other goodies, then head for the stairs in the South part of the cave. Don't attack undead with the Drain Spear! Stock up on anything you need and rest up. Ice Armor and Shield are good for Kain and the Black Shirt is good for Rydia. Poison Arrows are a good buy for Rosa. Now make sure you're ready to rumble and head into the hole the Prince went through. There are chests everywhere (these ninjas must be loaded!) Grab em and take advantage of secret passages. Don't miss those two elixers. (South passage in second area center of a room with a secret passage) There is a door in the third chamber which leads to a save point. Don't miss the secret passage leading to the Drain Sword on the East side. It is in a monster chest. Use the save point. Once you have all the chests (or all you want) go North of the save point. You'll watch Edge fight and lose to Rublicant, then he'll join the party. He can throw those Boomerangs and Shuriken, as well as other things (save big stuff for the end of the game though!) Don't miss the secret passage just South of you after Edge joins for an ether2 and by all means, go save. Then head after Rublicant into the Tower of Babil. TOWER OF BABIL: Edge will get you inside. Grab a couple of Cure3's. You'll have to pass up the door a short distance for the second, then head through the door. Grab the chest and hit the door here. Go East when you enter the next area. Grab the Middle Sword for Edge from the chest just off the path, then hit the door. The first door on this floor is a save point, use it and continue on to the next door. Duh, hit the next door in the next area. Follow the path West, but pass up the Northern bridge and grab 82000 GP from a chest. Then head back to the bridge and cross it. You'll meet Edge's parents and be forced to fight them. They leave on their own eventually, so don't waste any special items while fighting them. You can't kill them anyway. Then Rublicant appears again. He tells you Dr. Lugae turned Edge's parents into monsters without authorization. Edge gets mad and his rage draws out the hidden powers of Flood and Blitz. Rublicant will restore you to full strength before fighting you. Use Flood, Kain and the Paladins attacks, keep yourself healed, and have Rydia call Shiva. The Chamberlain of Eblan will show up and talk to you, continue North to the crystal room afterward. You'll fall into a hole into the underground again. Grab a chest from the North, then hit the door. In the next area just proceed North to the door. In the next area you can grab a cure2 from a chest if you want by going East, otherwise go West to the door. You'll arrive on a platform and find an airship. Jump on board and fly to the Dwarf Castle. Do standard town business, then talk to the King to get Lucca's necklace. This is the key to the Sealed Cave. Now go to the hospital in the basement and you'll find Cid alive. Talk to him and he'll fix your airship so it can fly over lava. Time to explore the underground. There is a smithy shop in the Southeast. Search jars for items and the bookcase upstairs for an elixer. The Sylph Cave is in the Northwest and the Land of Summoned Monsters is on an island. There is a town in the Southwest, stop there. Grab a few goodies from the house in the Northwest. Buy another Middle Sword for Edge, a Chain Whip for Rydia, and stock up on some mute arrows for Rosa if you wish. Diamond Gear is good for Kain and the Paladin Grab a Tiara for Rydia and Diamond Rings for the girls and Edge. Do any other town business you need to, then go out and save. If Rosa has the Wall spell, head for the Land of Summoned Monsters. If not, level up until she gets it. LAND OF SUMMONED MONSTERS: Use the Float spell. You'll have to do this every time you change floors or go through a door that scrambles the screen. Grab quite a few chests on this floor, and be on the lookout for secret paths. Then head down. You can get into a Goopie Loop (TM) by smashing creatures a conjurer summons, while leaving him alone. When you finally decide to smash the conjurer you'll gather lots of XP and GP. Recast Float. Grab a chest in the South, then another in the Northwest. Now hit the stairs. Recast Float. Grab chests and hit the secret passage in the Southeast. Follow it South then West to gather goodies including a Ninja Sword for Edge. Follow the passage North to exit or backtrack. Either way go North where you turned South last time in the passage. Follow it North and walk through the series of rooms to a monster chest North of the teleporter. It contains the Defense Sword for the Paladin. Now hit the teleporter. Grab the chests, especially the one you have to step on the teleporter then come back for. Just east of the teleporter back to the cave, walk into a little alcove which is North of a treasure chest. This will teleport you to some chests including the Samauri Bow and Arrows. Equip the bow, but save the arrows for tougher foes. Then use the teleporter to the next level. There is a save point in the Northwest house. Do your standard town business. Aegis Shield for Kain and the Paladin are a good buy, as are Sorcerors Robes for the girls. Blitz Whip for Rydia and a Long Sword for Edge are good buys. Stock up on some Charm Arrows for Rosa. Save anything you have earned at the save point, then go into the Library basement. Talk to the Queen and then fight her. Cast Wall on her to prevent her healing herself and beat her silly. Titan is effective. Beat her and Rydia can call her from that point on. Go out, rest and save, then come back and talk to the guy who insists he's not the King. Fight him now. Have Rydia use Asura every time. Beat on Leviatan with your weapon wielders, and keep Kain jumping. Bersk is not a bad idea for Rosa to cast on the Paladin and Edge too. Electricity works well if you get a chance to pop something off. Beat him and Rydia can call him. Now head out of the cave and head for the sealed cave. SEALED CAVE Use the Lucca Key just as you did the Magma Key and the way will be opened. Slide down the rope to the South. Grab the chest you see South of the door and then go to the door, it's a trap door. You must fight to enter. Grab the two chests and equip Edge with the Long Sword if you couldn't afford it in town. Now continue West and shimmy up the rope to the next door. Grab the chests here. There aren't any items behind the trap doors, but you can fight 'em for good experience. Then hit the stairs to the next level. If you want, slide down the rope for a life potion to the West, otherwise cross the bridge, grab the chest, and head North. You'll come to a long row of trap doors. The fifth one along is a save point, so it might not be a bad idea to open it first in case you need it before you finish with the others. There is nothing behind the first trap door. Behind the second is the Light Sword, although it's not as good as the Defense Sword you got in the Land of Summoned Monsters. Behind the third door are some Ninja Stars, elixer, and gold. Save those Ninja Stars for tough beasties. There's nothing behind the fourth door. Find a Long Sword and a Ninja Helm for Edge behind the sixth door. Beat the last trap door way in the South then make sure you're at high enough level of strength to continue. If not, go back, rest and save. Then hit the stairs. Grab the chests. There is nothing behind the trap door you see. Go through the doorway (looks like an alcove) in the South. There's nothing behind the trap door. Grab the chest East of it anyway. Shimmy down the rope. There are some goodies behind the trap door to the East. Hit the stairs in the West. Use the save room you find at the bottom of the stairs. Circle around the pit and go North to the stairs. In the next area fight one more trap door to reach the crystal room. Equip the Paladin with the Light Sword, then take the crystal. Prepare yourself for battle, then walk out of the room and you'll confront the Evil Wall. Cast Bersk on the Paladin and Ninja, keep Kain jumping, and make sure he's equipped with Blizzard Spear instead of Drain Spear due to the higher hit rate. Have Rydia call Titan. After you defeat the wall, head out of the cave, saving when you can. You might want to fight any trap doors you skipped for XP as you go. Before you exit the final door (the one with the rope south of it) strip Kain of his items. He'll come under Golblez's control again and take the crystal. Exit the cave. Go back to the Dwarf Castle and do your town business. Then go talk to the King. He'll tell you to head to the surface. Cid will arrive when you say you can't get there. He'll put a drill on your airship so you can get out. Now you can go back to the surface, but why not do something else first. Head for the Sylvan Cave. SYLVAN CAVE: Just like the Land of Summoned Monsters, use Float. You'll have to make two trips through this cave to get everything. Grab a couple of chests in the East, then hit the doorway in the South. Recast Float. Hit the doorway to the North and recast Float again. Collect some chests to the North (you'll have to use a short secret passage to get one) Then take the long secret passage which leads behind the entrance door. This takes you to a doorway, use it. Recast Float. Grab the four chests to the side then proceed. Grab some more chests then fall down the pit. Recast Float. Head up and take the secret passage West to the teleporter. Recast Float and grab the chests. They are all monster chests by the way. The three Northern ones contain elixers. The South ones contain Full Moon Boomerang, Avenger Sword, and Medusa Arrows. None of this is particularly useful to equip now. Hit the teleporter and you'll exit the cave. Rest and recharge, then save. Head back in. Follow the same path, but take the Southern door instead of the Northern one when you get to the second floor. There's a save point to the East. Take the hidden path in the East to reach the Elven Bow. Then head West, grab the two chests, and hit the door. Recast Float. A secret passage starting in the far North leads to a monster chest containing the Mute Knife. Now go hit the Southern door first. Recast Float. Run up and grab the chests. Now backtrack and take the Northern door, remembering to Float yourself. Float. Grab the chest and follow the path to the Fairie House. You'll find Yang, but he seems to be unconscious. Grab the Claws from the chest, then climb the stairs and step into the box to regain the surface. Rest, recharge and do any town business, then return to the surface world by flying to the crater in the Northeast and pressing A. Head to Mystidia. The townspeople take you to the Tower of Wishes and you acquire the Big Whale. There are rest and recharge chambers on the Whale in the rear. There is a big Chocobo as well. The controls at the front of the ship allow you to fly it on the surface like an airship. Talk to the crystal to head to the moon. Save the Ancient Sword, Drain Spear, Drain Sword, Mute Knife, Avenger Sword, Slumber Sword, and Defense Sword for the end of the game. Edge will be able to throw them for big damage. Give them to the Chocobo to save spots on the item list. (Hope you haven't hocked them off yet!) Now jump on the Big Whale. Fly to Fabul. Talk to Yang's wife and she'll give you the pan. Go get your airship from Mystidia and return to the underground. Go to Sylph Cave and use the pan on Yang. He'll wake up and Rydia will get the Sylph Spell. Now return the pan to Yang's wife and she'll give you the Spoon Dagger to use at the end of the game. Now take the Big Whale to Eblan where you left Enterprise. Use Enterprise to pick up the Hovercraft and fly to Silvera which is on a small island East of Baron. Search the grassy area for some hidden items. The shops don't really sell anything you need. The Ninja can throw the Silver Knife you find here, so save it for the end of the game. Now hop on the Hovercraft and use it to reach the cave just South of Silvera. Give the rat tail you found way back when to him and he'll give you Adamant ore. Now go back to the underground and the smithy you saw there in the Southeast. Talk to the man upstairs and give him the Adamant when your item list opens. He'll take Legend from you and forge Excalibur. Equip the Paladin NOW! Edge can throw the Light Sword so save it for the end of the game. Do any town business you need to, then head back to the surface. Here's a trick you can do to get all your ships in one place for rapid selection of transportation. (1) Drop the Hovercraft in the field on the peninsula South of Tororia. Now fly and exchange Enterprise for Falcon. (2) Fly Falcon over to Eblan and pick up the Big Whale. Fly the Big Whale to the field South of Tororia and park it. (3) Ride the Hovercraft to Tororia (you can set it down in the block west of the castle) Now walk North to the Chocobos. (4) Fly a Black Chocobo to a forest East of Mystidia and go get in Enterprise. Fly the Enterprise back to Tororia and put the Hovercraft back in the landing field. Now land Enterprise. (5) Ride the Hovercraft back to Tororia and walk to the Chocobos again. Fly the Chocobo to a forest near the landing field and dismount. Get into Enterprise and move the Hovercraft to the field once more. Fly the Enterprise back to the field, then ride the Chocobo home. (6) Jump back on the Chocobo and fly it to a forest near Eblan. Walk over to the Falcon by crossing the narrow area to the West. Get in the Falcon and land it in the field. Now you have a nice airstrip to depart from whenever you wish! You can even still go to the Chocobo forest and grab a ride if you wish. Every piece of flying transportation in the game is now right here in one easy to access location! Hey, give me a break. For some reason I got obsessed with figuring a way out to do this. It took me days to work all the patterns out, so I put them in. I thought, who knows, maybe I'm the only one who was obsessed and crazy enough to do it. And now on with the story! Time to go to the Moon. Go talk to the crystal in the Big Whale and take a ride. When you arrive on the Moon you'll see a Crystal Palace in the East. South of it is a crater with a cave. Inside this cave are the Hummingways. One of them sells recharge items, and you'll want to stock up. Then fly North of the Crystal Palace and land on the raised area near the stairs down. There is a cave just West of this, the Lunar Path. LUNAR PATH: The critters here are strong, so be careful. By all means, save as soon as you land. Use fire against puddings, Lit against Tofu, and Lit against Slimes. Grab an elixer from a monster chest to the East. Grab another couple chests East of the exit door. Head East, then go South. You should see another cave in the East now, enter it and head South to exit. No chests here. Now walk West and enter the Crystal Palace via the cave below it. There are recovery spots in the East and West when you enter the Palace. A man will appear and give you some information, as well as telling you to go to the Tower of Babil and joining the party. You really do not want to do that just yet, though. Go out and save, then use the Lunar Path to return to the Big Whale. Grab a nap and save. Then fly West and land on the Northern side of the ring shaped raised area. Walk around the central area to enter the cave on it's South side. CAVE BAHUMAT: First and foremost, beware Behemoths! Use Leviatan and normal attacks to dispatch them if you encounter them. In the South there is a Samauri Gauntlet. In the East through a secret passageway you can acquire the Samurai Shield for the Paladin. Backtrack through the secret passage and go South to reach the next area. Grab the Samuari Armor as you follow the path. Equip either Edge or the Paladin with it. Grab the Samurai Helm East of the narrow bridge for the Paladin or Edge. Then cross the bridge and enter the door. The next area is pretty simple. Just follow the narrow path and go talk to the man you see. If you're too weak, don't talk to him just yet. Charge up your HP & MP and then go after him. Have Rydia keep calling Leviatan. Have the healers cast wall spells on the entire party. The Paladin and Edge should just beat on him. When you beat him, Rydia can call him. Use the exit spell to avoid battles with Behemoths on the way out, then save. Get back on the Whale. Go to the Hummingways and do any town business, then save before heading to Earth. The next section is harder than you can imagine, so save in a different slot after this save until you beat the Giant of Babil. Now head back to Earth. Watch all the goings on, then it's time to take on the Giant of Babil. GIANT OF BABIL: Just head North, go around the hole, and step on the teleporter here. Same in the next section, the Neck. Grab some shuiriken just West of where you come in. Grab another chest just before you reach the narrow zig-zag bridge. Grab another after you cross it. Walk a little out of your way to the West for a cabin. Another side trip to the Northeast nets you some Samurai Arrows. Then cross the bridge North of where you found the cabin to the teleporter. There are three paths. The two outside ones lead to chests with life potions. The central one leads to the teleporter. Follow the path. The chest in the center contains monsters and an elixer. There is a save point a little further up if you want to hit it first. Don't forget to use a different slot! After resting up and saving, Head North to the teleporter. Head North and the four Fiends will appear again. Rublicant heals you again, then you must fight them all. Fire3 against the Earth Element. Ice3 against Rublicant. Lit3 against the Water Element and Leviatan works pretty well against the final Element. It's not a bad idea to cast fast on everyone as well. Once you beat them, head back to the save point and recover. Now head North of where you fought the Fiends and hit the teleport to find the Giant's CPU. Whack on the defender orb, then go after the CPU. Use Bahamut to give them all a big whack. The fast trick is a good idea if you get a chance. Watch out when you defeat both satellites, because the CPU uses a 9999 damage attack that is almost impossible to avoid. But then again, a couple of Bahamuts will finish off the CPU anyway, so long as it's not Rydia who croaks on you. Watch the event, FuSoYa leaves and Kain rejoins. You can stay on the moon and finish the game, or you can go do a few other things first. First off, you can buy Samurai Arrows now at the Dwarf Smithy shop. You can also buy Shuiriken and Ninja Stars. Remember the King of Baron Castle? He said to come back after you had been to the land of summoned monsters. Now's a good time to go back. He gives you the Odin spell if you beat him. Whenever you're ready, head back to the moon and the Crystal Palace Talk to the crystals, then enter the Lunar Subterrane. LUNAR SUBTERRANE: Quake Red Giants for good effect. Take a secret passage to the East (it's on the East wall almost even with the teleporter), it leads to a monster chest containing the Ninja Shirt for Edge. Then backtrack and hit a secret passage on the West side near the teleporter. Take the teleporter you find here to reach a door and use it. The monster you see contains the Life Staff. Use the teleporter to reach the next level once you get it. In the next area there isn't anything to get, so just head Southward and use the door you find. You'll see a sword hovering between two pillars. You'll have to fight a monster to get it. Bahamut does a fine job against him. Equip the Murasame Sword on Edge. Now backtrack to the first floor. May as well go outside and heal up and save while you're so close to the entrance. Then take the doorway South of the entrance teleporter. Walk until you hit the wall, which is a secret passage. Don't miss the turn which leads you to the chest containing the Flame Whip for Rydia. Then follow the passage to where it comes out near a door and a chest. Get the Dragoon Shield from the chest for Kain. Then hit the door. Head South and find a secret passage along the Eastern wall. Follow it to a chest containing Dragoon Helm for Kain. On a Southern wall near the chest find another secret passage. Follow it South for Dragon Armor and Gauntlets. Now backtrack and go through the doorway in the center of the floor. Head East for a chest with Artemis Arrows, which you should save for tough beasties. Go West after you cross the bridge and enter a door for an unguarded elixer (Rare!) Then head to the East and cross the bridge, eventually coming to a cave door which you can use between pillars. Grab a couple chests while you're here. The doorway is just a small indention on the South wall near the Western chest. Use it. The chest you see is a monster chest containing the Stardust Rod. Walk South to find the passage to the next floor. Follow the path you see. There are two Dragons in the monster chest you see, so be ready for battle. Freeze the Red one and Quake the Blue one. You'll get the Crystal Shield for the Paladin. Hit the nearby cave. Use the secret passage on the East wall to reach a protect ring for one of the girls. Follow another passage East to a big room. There are doorways North and South. Go South first. Open a monster chest for the Crystal Armor. Then backtrack and take the Northern door. Head East and gather the Crystal Gauntlets from the monster chest. Now head West and hit a cave entrance. Grab the White Shirt for Rosa in the South before proceeding through the cave to the North. Head West and take the Crystal Helm from the monster chest, then head East and go down the stairs leading South you saw upon first arriving in this area. You can grab a cabin from the cave door North of the stairs before you go though. Take the two chests you see upon emerging. On the West bridge you can grab a cabin. Take the East path to reach a doorway. Grab the Heroine Robe from a monster chest for Rydia, then hit the doorway. Head South and enter the first doorway to find a save point. Use it for heavens sake! Now do some backtracking. Leave the save point and go back through the door. Then head South through the exit of the cave. Cross the bridge and go back across the Western one where you got the cabin. The little projection on the Northwest here has an invisible bridge. Cross this bridge and go North. You'll find a secret passage on the Western side of the rock formation that leads to invisible stairs. Grab a life potion from the chest you see, then head East. Don't take the dead end path North, just keep going East and hit the teleporter. When you emerge, walk North to another teleporter. By all means, use the save point you find here. Walk out the Southern door and go fight the Wyvern for the Crystal Sword. He'll probably cast wall, but Rydia's call spells seem unaffected. Mist seems to work fairly well. Once you beat him, backtrack to the save point and use it. Then backtrack all the way to the other save point and use it. Now enter the second cave along the line. The Plague you must fight here is one tough beast. Everyone just whack on him (Good time to bring out Rosa's Artemis Arrows) and have Rydia call Bahamut. You may have to fight this one several times, but at least the save point is right next door. When you finally finish it off, you receive the White Lance for Kain, so go save. Now go hit the third door. Whack on them, keep yourself healed, and use Bahamut. Eventually you'll defeat the Lunars and gain Ribbons for the two girls. Go save again. Now head around the corner up onto the raised area and go down the ramp you see heading South. Enter the cave door you see just to the West. Head East in the Crystal Room. Grab a Ninja Star from a chest as you travel along. Don't miss the hovering Sword in the South! Fight Ogopogo for the Masamune Sword. Use Asura to keep yourself healed while the boys beat on him. Use Rosa to cast fast on herself and Rydia, as well as bersk on the Paladin and Edge. Then she can become a back up healer. You can go back and save now, but it's a long walk. If you have plenty of Ether and Cure2's you may as well go on. Head back to the West a short bit to the stairs. Grab an elixer from the chest then follow the twisting path, grabbing a whistle right before the teleporter. Grab some ninja stars on this level as you make your way toward the teleporter. No chests here. Just follow the path until you get to the teleport Now is the time to heal up with items and use the whistle to retrieve any swords or knives you have stored, putting useless stuff in with the Chocobo. Then hit the teleporter. Head North along the bridge, watch the event, then fight! Have the Paladin use the crystal you get first to weaken Zeromous so you can hit him. Kain should keep jumping. Have the Paladin keep whacking with the Crystal Sword. Have Edge throw everything he can, then start whacking. Rosa can cast fast on the Paladin and the occasional white spell and slow on Zeromous. Have Rydia use Bahamut and an occasional Asura if necessary. Now watch the end of the game!
