DRAGON WARRIOR IV FAQ VERSION 1.0 COMPILED BY CHRISTOPHER LEE BOGER leslumens@yahoo.com http://darken.0catch.com/goblin/ggdomain.htm <> ((THE ROYAL SOLDIERS)) Talk to everyone in the castle, gathering information. The fourth dresser in the far Southeast room contains a medical herb. Talk to everyone in town, especially Flora in the house across from the inn. Exit the town and earn some levels and money. Avoid remaining outside after dark for the first two levels, as Babbles which appear can be deadly. Stay near the castle. Get either the Wooden Hat or the Leather Shield before making the journey to the Cave to Izmit. I usually attempt to gather powerful armor in an area before advancing further. The Chain Mail, Scale Shield, and Wooden Hat will make you nearly invincible early on. Save after each purchase or you may be sorry later. It is a good idea throughout the game to save often and perhaps even keep an earlier save in case you forget a clue which is not repeated. Do this by copying your quest after you are sure you know where you are going. This is time consuming, but is much better than wandering the world hoping to stumble into the next place you should go (especially in chapter 5!) I usually make my first journey into the Cave to Izmit at level-4 with the Wooden Hat and Leather Shield added to my inventory. CAVE TO IZMIT: This cave is fairly simple. At the first right is a dead end containing a chest with a medical herb. Near the Northern exit is a chest of gold. IZMIT: Talk to everyone. In the bathhouse next to the inn is a medical herb. It is in the rightmost dresser. The jail is in the North between the house of healing and armor shops. Come back at night and talk to the schoolmaster. The enemies around Izmit are tougher, so be careful while waiting for nightfall. Talk to the children in the schoolhouse and the prisoner as well. Head back to Burland. Talk to Flora and take her to Izmit to visit with her husband in the jail. The location of the secret playground will be revealed to you. (4 South and 4 East of the village signpost) Now I usually earn enough gold to purchase the Boomerang (skipping the thorn whip), and upgrade my shield. Entering the playground about level-6. SECRET PLAYGROUND: Follow the voice and drop down the well. Follow the voices instructions and you will obtain the Flying Shoes. After obtaining the shoes, retrace your steps to the South. Instead of going West to the stairs, follow the Eastern path. At the end of this path you will see a Healer. Talk to him and allow him to join your party. You now have your first U.C.! Retrace your steps once more. Head back toward the North where you found the Flying Shoes. Instead of turning West, turn East and follow the path. At the end of the path is a chest with 600 gold in it. Now retrace your steps once more and leave this floor. Once up the stairs there is a medical herb at the end of the first path to the East if you want it. To exit the Playground, go to the North and take the Western path where the voice says "If you go that way you'll go back". Fall down the hole here. Go up the stairs after falling. The jar to the East of the stairs contains an Agility Seed and the one directly above the stairs contains a medical herb. Go up the stairs and exit the playground. If I don't already have it, I now earn enough gold for the Half- Plate Armor. THE TOWER: Go outside the town and use the Flying Shoes. You will be transported to the Tower. I explore the first and second floors earning enough for the Iron Shield or Chain Sickle. There is a Wing of the Wyvern in a chest to the West on the second floor. After purchasing new armament I head for the third floor. Beware the Giant Bantams, they can put you to sleep. Behind the large door is a chest of gold. Take this and return to the second floor. Here earn enough to outfit yourself with the best armor and weapons you can buy in Izmit. Time to return to the tower and finish robbing it. North of the stairs you entered this floor from is a set of stairs up which lead to a Strength Seed. There is a Scale Shield on the Western side of the third floor just before the stairs down. You might want to drop off the tower now from the ledge to the South and sell the Scale Shield for cash to stock up on Medical Herbs. On the fourth floor, go North and then West to discover the Sword of Malice. Equip this immediately! When used as an item in battle the Sword of Malice attacks a group of enemies with magic. Now go East and obtain a luck see. South of where you came in are a set of stairs down. These lead to a plate on a white square. Step on this square to recharge HP and MP. Go West and follow the path after recharging, pass the exit to the grass and you will find stairs down. After the stairs follow the path and talk to the creature on the raised platform. When the battle begins, concentrate Ragnar's shots on Saro's Shadow. Kill him off before working on the Eyeball. Don't worry about Healie too much. Concentrating on keeping him alive seems to be more dangerous than helpful. I'm usually about level-11 for this fight. After the fight you must make your way back up the tower and jump off to exit. The quickest way is to go back up the stairs and walk to the grass, exiting the tower. Then use the Shoes and jump off the top floor. ENDING: Now return to Izmit where the children are reunited with their parents. Before returning to Burland, spend as much of your gold as you can. The reason for this is that items are maintained for later chapters, but gold is not. After spending yourself broke, return to Burland and talk to the King. <> ((PRINCESS ALENA'S ADVENTURE)) Naturally, talk to everyone before doing anything else. In the second dresser of Alena's room is a Feather Hat. In the second dresser behind the healer's desk is a bottle of Fairy Water. After talking to everyone, return to Alena's room. The person fixing the wall should be gone. Walk up to the boarded up spot and search. Kick out the boards and jump down. Jump down off the roof and you can exit the castle. You won't get far before Brey and Cristo join you. Now you have a three member party. Go ahead and enter Surene Town. Sell that useless Fairy Water. Talk to everyone as always. Upgrade Brey's Basic Clothes to the Wayfarer's Clothes, then go out and earn some levels and gold. Cristo is a healer and Brey is a powerful wielder of Ice and other magics. Brey's Icebolt will destroy many creatures in one blow even at level-1. Don't venture very far from the town at first. Beware of the Troglodytes which appear at night, though they are worth a good deal of GP. Buy Brey a Leather Shield or Leather Helm as soon as possible since his defense power is very low. Before leaving to journey further North, you should be equipped with the best armor Surene has to offer Brey and Cristo. Alena's armor is better than anything sold here. You should also upgrade Cristo's weapon to at least the Copper Sword. If you don't the Rabidhounds of the North will make short work of you. It would be wiser to upgrade to the Thorn Whip. Save before making the journey North as it will be perilous and you cannot save at the next town. TEMPE: As usual, talk to everyone. You will discover that a monster threatens this town. You volunteer to get rid of him and go to the Shaman who delivers you in Trojan Horse fashion to the enemy. Once the fight begins, have Cristo Surround the Chameleon Humanoid if he has the spell. Have Alena hit the Rabidhounds while Brey Icebolts them. Finish off the Rabidhounds first, then have Brey Sap the Humanoid if he has the spell. Defeating the foes earns you some Lifeforce Nuts. It would probably be wise to use these on Brey. The item shop of Tempe will now open. If you have the GP, buy Brey a Boomerang now so that he can be useful in battle without using his magic. If you go North through the Shaman's house, back to where you fought the earlier battle, you will find more Lifeforce Nuts in the center of the platform. It might be wise to use these on Cristo. Before you go onward you might want to return to Surene and save, since stronger monsters lie ahead. Go North of the battle site to get to the next town. You might also want to stay around and earn gold to arm Alena and possibly Cristo with Boomerangs. FRENOR: Talk to everyone as usual. Upstairs in the inn you will witness a kidnapping. To save the Princess (???! You're the Princess!) you must trade the town treasure hidden in a cave to the South. Before you go I would advise obtaining a Wooden Hat for Cristo as well as upgrading everyone to the Boomerang if you haven't yet done so. Also upgrade to Chain Mail Armor on Alena and Cristo. Beware the Flameghosts which appear at night. Hitting them with Brey's Icebolt always does damage and never causes splitting. You should be at least level-8 before entering the cave so that Cristo will have learned the Antidote spell and Brey will have learned the Outside spell. This cave is tough! CAVE SOUTH OF FRENOR: The first dark path to the South holds a Wing of the Wyvern. It's a good idea to Surround the Vampire Bats. The next dark path at the North holds a chest of gold. The chest on the raised platform contains an Agility Seed. On the second floor, the first dark path to the South is a dead end The next dark path, at the West, contains a chest with a Magic Potion. Backtrack and walk over the bones to the South to reach the next room. Go through the maze (remember, you can walk over bones) to reach the final chest and obtain the Golden Bracelet. Use Outside to exit if you can and Return of Wings if you are really weak and have them available. Go back to Frenor and rest if you need to. Then wander around outside until it is night. Take the path to the graveyard and turn over the Bracelet to the kidnappers. The fake Princess will apologize and give you the Thieve's Key in exchange for helping her. The Weapon Shop will now also reopen. Purchase the biggest weapons you can afford for Cristo. Once you have recharged, re-equipped, and saved, head South of the cave where you found the Bracelet. You will see a shrine here. You will see a travel door inside, but a guard will not let you pass on order of your father, the King. Go to the West and step on the green spot in the desert. DESERT BAZZAR: Talk to everyone as usual. In the jars near the horse pen are the Gum Pod and a Strength Seed. Here you will learn something has happened back at home. A soldier informs you to return home immediately. Back at Santeem, you learn the King has lost his voice. The Chancellor says the old man out back may know something. Jump off the roof like you did at the beginning of this chapter. Now you have the Thieve's Key so you can get to the old man. He informs you to seek out the poet Marone. Before you leave check the old man's dresser for a Wing of the Wyvern. Now travel to Surene to speak with Marone. He is on the roof above the healer. He tells you the Birdsong Nectar is the cure and that he found it at a desert Bazzar. So, it's back to the Bazzar. There are some things here which are a good idea to buy. Get Cristo the Bronze Armor and a Scale Shield. Get Brey a Scale Shield as well. At the weapon shop, buy Cristo the Morning Star and Brey the Venomous Dagger. The Venomous Dagger sometimes paralyzes foes, often taking them out of the fight for the entire battle. Now head Southwest to Birdsong Tower. BIRDSONG TOWER: The first area due North of the tower entrance contains a staircase down to an inn. The stairs up are behind the Thieve's Key door. On the second floor the path to the Southwest leads you to a set of stairs, which in turn leads to chests. Inside the chests are the following items: A large quantity of GP, and a Strength Seed. Now backtrack to the second floor and take the path going East. Immediately take the path South and follow it until it turns East. Continue following the path and take the stairs. On the third floor, go North immediately for a Wing of the Wyvern. Follow the path West, being careful of the hole, and it will take you to the 4th floor stairs. The 4th floor is easy. Just head for the plainly visible stairs. On the 5th floor search the Southwest corner of the center square to find the Birdsong Nectar. Now return to Santeem castle and use the Nectar on the King and he will regain his voice. He will also give you permission to roam the world as you please. Remember the travel door you weren't allowed to use? Go there now and use it. After exiting the travel door, head South. You will soon see the Castle. ENDOR: Talk to everyone in town. Since you're probably rich anyway, go ahead and buy Cristo the Half-Plate Armor and Iron Shield. Now head into the castle. Talk to everyone here as well. The King and Princess will ask you to enter the tournament. Exit the castle and go through one of the side doors following the path to the coliseum. Within you can purchase the Iron Claw for Alena, dramatically increasing her attack power. If you think you are ready, head up the stairs and enter the tournament in which Alena will fight alone. Make sure you have her stocked up completely with medical herbs except for her weapons and armor. Save first! I recommend at least level-13 with around 85 attack power before you enter the tournament. After winning the tournament, go into town and to the casino. Turn all your remaining gold into coins. Then teleport to Santeem Castle. Wander around for a while, then exit the Castle <> ((TALOON THE ARMS MERCHANT)) Talk to everyone. There is a medical herb in the first jar of your house downstairs. You can quickly earn money for strong equipment without ever leaving town in this chapter. If you see your lunch each day, your wife will give you another each morning. Push the old man Tom to the House of Healing for a few coins. The big money comes from working at the shop, however. Just keep pressing A until the boss comes out and pays you. Then go home and sleep. Repeat this process until you can afford whatever equipment you choose to have before adventuring. Now exit town and start to earn some levels. Don't be surprised to find wandering item merchants. Taloon has a wonderful knack for finding treasure chests on creatures as well. Level-4 and the best equipment in Laknaba should be more than enough to venture onward. Purchase antidote spells before heading North to the Cave of the Safe. CAVE OF THE SAFE: The first floor is obvious. On the second floor follow the path and go up the stairs. This leads to another obvious section back on the first floor. After coming down the stairs, walk past the large stone block, but don't press the button yet. Take the chest to the West and equip the Chain Sickle within. Now return to the stone block and walk up to it. Press the button and ride the wave. You'll fall down a hole to the third floor. Take the stairs to the fourth floor. Go West to the stone block holding the boulder back. Walk South and the boulder will begin chasing you. This area is tricky, you must walk slowly enough to make the boulder keep rolling South, but quickly enough it doesn't turn the corner and follow you. If the boulder covers the hole on the West path, you haven't done it right. Otherwise go down some stairs and keep trying. Once you have accomplished the boulder trick, go down the stairs you can now reach. Push one of the rocks with you as you head North. Place the rock in front of the treasure chest. Now take the treasure chest. Push the rock forward to where the chest was to deactivate the trap and then exit the cave. FOX VILLAGE: After returning home and recharging, head South of Laknaba. You will soon see a village East of the grass path. Enter this village. Walk along the dirt path and head North when you can. Talk to everyone. If you try to leave the village you will find there is no way out. Don't buy the Broadsword, it's not what it seems. Go to the hut in the far North and accept the Elder's offer of rest. In the morning the village will have vanished. BONOMALANO: Head South of the Fox Village. You will soon see a castle. Gather information as usual. If you have any spare armor, sell it to an old man inside the castle for greater than average value. Say "no" to a few of his offers and you can get more than what you would have paid for the armor. The prince will ask you to meet him behind the weapon shop at night, but worry about that later. The King seems to be missing a certain person you saw in the Fox Village. Some people tell you about a boy from Laknaba who is in the castle prison. Purchase a Wing of the Wyvern if you don't have one and head for the castle prison. You must elude the guards here or they will escort you outside. Wait for one of the guards to pass by the North of you when you descend the stairs into the prison. When he turns and begins walking South, run out of the central room for the tiny alcove to the East. Wait for the next guard to begin walking West, then run over to the boy in the cell to the East. Give him the Wing of the Wyvern then exit the castle. Return home and go to the caged dog behind old Tom's house. Here the boy will offer to loan you his dog. Accept the offer and return to the Fox Village. Make sure you have an open slot in your inventory if at all possible when you return to the village. When you enter the dog will bark and run North. Follow the dog and talk to the elder. Allow the fox to escape and he will give you a suit of Full Plate Armor. DaGardi will then appear and say he is returning to Bonomalano. You should do the same. Sell the Full Plate to the old man, haggling for a good price. You will discover DaGardi has repaired the Southern bridge and the joyous King is preparing to invade Endor. Make a quick side trip home to return the dog to it's owner. Then wander around Bonomalano until nightfall. Walk around behind the weapon shop and talk to the prince once night comes. He will give you a letter to be delivered to the Princess of Endor. Beware the Blazeghosts which appear near Endor at night. ENDOR: Gather information in town. A man wants to sell his shop, but you need the King's permission to buy it. You have plenty of gold, so stop and purchase the Iron Apron, Iron Shield, and Abacus of Virtue. When used as an item in battle the Abacus of Virtue will send monsters flying away, leaving behind no GP or XP, however. Upstairs at the inn and near the Healer's shack are two people who offer to accompany you for money. Don't accept yet. Go into the castle. Read the Prince's letter by using it in front of the King. The King will give you the Royal Scroll. Return to Bonomalano and read the Royal Scroll to the King there. Now return to Endor and talk to the King once more. He now gives you permission to open a shop in Endor. Talk to the old man who is selling his shop. The old man wants 35000 for his shop! Where will you get that kind of money? It seems a scholar here is looking for the Silver Statuette The Silver Statuette is located in the Eastern Cave. The monsters there are strong, however, you could use some help. Hire one or both of the U.C.'s here in town. Strom is a powerful warrior and will accompany you for 5 days for 400 gold. Laurent is a magic user who knows the heal spell. He will accompany you for 5 days for 600 gold. The cave is across the bridge and far to the North. CAVE OF THE STATUETTE: Level one is easy. Follow the path, skipping the set of stairs. Get in the boat and sail over the waterfall. Follow the path on level two. There is a Wing of the Wyvern just to the West. Walk East as far as you can, then turn South. Go up the stairs you find here. Walk North then West, turn North when the path does and go toward the strange object you see. Press the button. Water will now have flowed from this chamber to the floor below. Retrace your steps. There is a medical herb to the South if you need it. Take the stairs you find just past this chest and return to the Second floor. Get on the boat and sail North. Turn West at the first opportunity To the North you will see some statues and a staircase on an island. Use the stairs. Follow the path and take the chests you find here. You have found the Silver Statuette. Now exit the cave. Sail back to the stairs you entered this floor from. Walk West after using the stairs and you should discover a set of stairs up. These will lead you out of the cave. Go to the house on the Eastern side of Endor and sell the Statuette for 25000 GP. Now go out and earn the rest of the money to buy your shop. There are still chests in the cave of the Silver Statuette. Rest in town and return for them. Take the first set of stairs on the first floor and you will discover a Morning Star in the chest to the North. There is a chest of gold in the center of this floor as well. North of this chest is another containing an Iron Spear. You will probably have to make several trips into the cave to clean it out since Taloon's backpack seems to fill up quickly. Avoid selling any Broadswords or Half Plate Armor if you can. Re-hire your U.C.'s after their time expires if you choose, although you are probably powerful enough by this time to survive alone. Don't forget you can sell less powerful armor for more money at Bonomalano. Wait to take the chests on the third floor until you have earned enough to buy your shop. When you have acquired the gold, go buy the shop from the old man. Your family will come to Endor. You may now talk to your wife from across the counter and give her goods to sell. She will get full price for anything you give to her. Go to the King and he will offer a contract requesting Broadswords and Half Plate Armor. The soldier next to the old man on the first floor will take any of these you have in your possession when you speak to him. When you have filled the order you will receive 60,000 gold pieces. Remember the large cave you passed every time you went to the cave of the Statuette? Go there now. The old man wants to build a tunnel connecting with the East. 60,000 more gold will is needed to complete it. Looks like you have found a place to spend that gold you will get for filling the King's order. Now return to the cave of the Silver Statuette and make your way to the third floor. Sail North then West. To the South you will see a chest. It contains a Broadsword. Sail further West past the isle with the statues and then North. You will discover a chest with Half Plate Armor. Return to town and deliver these to the King's man. Wander around the castle fighting creatures. Eventually you'll acquire the goods to fill the King's order. If you get frustrated, and you have the money, you can purchase the Broadswords at Bonomalano. Give anything else you acquire to your wife to sell. Keep it up until you have enough to fill out the order. Make sure you receive the last of the money for sales your wife makes, selling any items you acquire now to other shopkeepers. Go get paid for filling the King's contract. Now return to the old man in the cave. Give him the gold he requests. If you return to the cave again you will see men hard at work and the old man tells you he will send word to your house when the cave is completed. You will also find out that the casino has reopened. Head to the Casino. Once you step foot inside, the men will have at that moment finished the cave. Return to your house and your wife will tell you she has received a message. As you have done before, empty your pockets of gold, trading for goods or coins in the casino. Then journey to the old man's cave. Walk up the new stairs in the completed cave. <> ((THE SISTERS OF MONBARABA)) Gather information in town. There is a medical herb in the first jar you come to after waking up. There is a Strength Seed in the second dresser in the showmaster's room. Buy Mara a Leather hat with your gold stores. Go outside and earn some levels and gold. Re-enter the town at night to gather some more information. Nara is a healer and Mara is a user of Fire and other magics. Arm yourself well before leaving for the North. The sisters are fairly weak in this early stage of the adventure. KIEVS: This is your hometown. Walk around and talk to everyone. You may sleep at the inn here for free. There are Lifeforce Nuts in a jar in Edgar's house. Arm yourself with the items to be purchased from the tool shop. Acquire both sisters the Leather Dress, Leather Hat, and Boomerang and you should be strong enough to continue on. It might be wise to acquire at least one Feather Hat, though. Take a couple of Antidote Herbs with you if you don't have the spell yet. CAVE WEST OF KIEVS: Follow the path on the first floor, ignoring the first dark passage The next dark passage you come across has a chest containing a Wing of the Wyvern. Keep following the path until you reach a strange plate on the floor. Step on the plate and ride the elevator down to the second floor. Follow the path on the second floor. The first dark passage is another elevator. Take it down to the fourth floor (This elevator goes down two floors). Head East around the water and turn South when you reach the West wall. Cross the bridge and take the Lamp of Darkness from the chest. Then go talk to the man in the Southwest. Your journey becomes much easier once the strong Orin has joined your party. Make your way back to the elevator and back up to the third floor again. Head South and you'll be presented with a path East and a path West. If you take the Western one first, you can acquire a significant amount of GP from a chest. Then backtrack and take the Eastern path. You'll come to a dark passage on the Eastern path, enter it and you can acquire Lifeforce Nuts from the chest. Then continue South and you will find an elevator to the third floor. Follow the path on this floor and use the elevator at the end of it to reach the fourth floor. Go the only way you can and acquire the Sphere of Silence from the chest. Then escape the dungeon. Head back to Montobaraba and save your game. If you haven't already, get Feather Hats for both sisters, and make sure they both have Leather Dresses. Grab the Chain Sickle for Nara too. No set out East from Kievs. Turn North when you can and you soon see Keelon Castle. Strong enemies with dangerous abilities live near here, but they are not nearly so bad now that you have Orin in your party and better equipment. KEELON CASTLE: Roam around the castle and gather some information. You'll find out a few things about the King's Counsel. You can go through the Magic Key doors of this castle because Orin can break the locks to allow you passage. Once you've finished exploring the castle, strike out due North to the port town of Haville. HAVILLE: Gather information as usual. Buy a Venomous Dagger for Mara and a Morning Star for Nara at the weapons shop. Buy Nara a Scale Sheild and Half Plate Armor. Get Mara a Fur Coat as well. You might have to wander about and gather GP first for a while. Then rest up, save your game, and strike out West to Akemto. Follow the coast and go onto the peninsula to the North when you find it to reach Akemto. Along the way, before the peninsula to Akemto, there is a shrine on another smaller peninsula. If you enter here, you'll hear a strange prophecy told to you. AKEMTO: Not much to do in town or much to learn. Enter the Akemto mine, but be sure you're at least level-10, as the monsters inside are very dangerous to the weak sisters. Don't be surprised if you have to retreat and recharge your power before you make it to the end of the dungeon. AKEMTO MINE: Right near the entrance grab Mystic Acorns from the treasure chest and use them on one of the sisters. The path will branch not long after. Take the East fork, as the Western one is a dead end. The path will branch again not long after. Once again, avoid the Western path because it's a dead end. The path will branch again almost immediately. If you take the Western path you can acquire the Silver Tarot Cards. These are a weapon for Nara, but it is weaker than the Morning Star in attack power. The cards can be used as an item in battle to produce random effects. Be warned however.... the effects of the cards is NOT always beneficial to your party. The other path to the East leads to the ladder which will take you down to level-2 of the mine. You'll see a dark path West, but it's a dead end and nothing important is there. You'll then come to a path West and a dark path East. Take the dark path, as the other is a dead end. Use the ladder you find here to reach the third floor of the mine. Collect the Gunpowder Jar from the chest and escape the mine. If you have the Outside spell and the MP, it's probably a good idea to use it. Return to Havile and save your game. Make sure you rest at the Inn to recharge your power first. Then head back down to Keelon Castle. Enter the castle via the small Eastern door. Go down the small hallway near the counselors room just inside the castle from this door. Make sure all of you party members are fully within the narrow dead end hall, then use the Gunpowder Jar from your item menu. Wait for the counselor to shut the door and get into the hallway leading North, then follow him about 4 steps behind him until he turns West in the hall. Stop before you enter the hall running East/West so that the counselor doesn't see you and he'll open the secret door. Go to the secret door and search to reveal a button that opens the door and allows you to enter. Go talk to the person on the throne, it's Balzack, your sworn enemy! Fight him to avenge your Father. Use the Sphere of Silence first thing to stop Balzack's spells. You might cast Sap on him to weaken him a bit in the next round. After that, just have Nara keep you well healed (Balzack can do around 25 pts. of damage per round) and beat on him with weapons and the Firebal spell to defeat him. Once you defeat Balzack, Keelon will appear and you'll have to fight him. Do your best, but you are too weak to contest with him and he will wipe out your party. You'll awaken in a cell with an old man. Talk to him and obtain his boarding pass from the chest behind the hole in the wall. Then follow the hall to escape the jail cell. Orin will remain behind to hold off the guards while the sisters make their escape to Haville. Spend all your GP in Haville, then go to the Northwest corner of town and board the ship. Talk to everyone on board, then go in the door and up the stairs and talk to the Captain again. Say "Yes" when he asks you if you are ready to sail and you will set sail to Endor and end this chapter. <> ((THE CHOSEN ONES)) Walk around and talk to everyone like your mother asks. There is a medical herb in one of the jars in the cellar. Now walk home and get our lunch so that the old man will teach you the Zap spell. Unfortunately that is not meant to be. Talk to your mother and watch the events unfold. Exit the cellar and you will see everyone is gone and the village destroyed. Leave the village and head South. You will see a shrine which turns out to be a woodsman's shack. The three jars to the West contain a Medical Herb, Leather Armor, and gold. Equip the armor now. The woodsman tells you to go to the castle. Head South then East to reach it. BRANCHA CASTLE: Gather information. Sell off your old set of Basic Clothes. Walk around the castle earning levels and gold. Avoid night and the Babbles it brings at first. Purchase at least the Leather Shield before journeying onward. Head to the Southwest and you will reach Taloon's cave. Now go onward to Endor. ENDOR: Gather information, meeting up with Nara and Mara. Equip any spare items they are carrying which the Hero can use. Sell anything else to buy equipment for the Hero. Drop the Gunpowder Jar and the Boarding Pass at the vault (Taloon's shop). Now go outside and learn a new way to battle. You should make sure to stay near the castle and that Nara and Mara are not carrying any item which can be used up. Now switch the tactics to Try-Out for a short while, perhaps until the Hero reaches his next level or perhaps two. Then switch to different tactics for short periods of time. Finally switch back to Normal Tactics. This is to teach the A.I. a little before you journey in earnest. Save often! Once you have upgraded your Hero's equipment a little and earned some levels, head back through the tunnel and travel East of Branca Castle. Find the break in the mountains to the South and go to the shrine. Talk to everyone uncovering information. There is a lunch in the chest in the North. It can be reached through the break in the Northern wall. You should now know what your next destination should be. Before you journey East to the Cave of Betrayal, you should have acquired the following for your Hero: Half Plate Armor, Iron Shield, Wooden Hat, Broadsword. The Wooden Hat and Broadsword can be purchased at Bonomalano. You should also be level-9 so that you have the Fireball spell CAVE OF BETRAYAL: Make sure that Nara keeps the Hero healed up to max. Follow the path North, breaking through the stone wall. Down the path a little farther, the sisters will fall into a trap. Continue on the path and use the stairs. On the second floor you will see Nara and Mara running. Talk to them. Defeat the Licklicks and you will fall into a trap to the third floor. Again you will see the sisters fleeing. Heal yourself, then talk to them. Fireball the Tricksey Urchins first. Then finish off the Vampire Bats. Head North and climb the stairs back to the second floor. Then cross the small chamber and climb back to the third floor. You see the sisters again in the South. Talk to them. They are the real thing this time and will rejoin you. Go back to the North and ascend the stairs to the second floor. Break the block wall to the South. Go up the stairs to the first floor. Break through the block wall to the West and go down the stairs. Follow the path and go down the stairs. Walk to the center of the room and break blocks until you discover the chest. Take the Symbol of Faith and exit the cave. Return to the Desert Shrine and talk to the wagon master. Hector will join the party and loan you his wagon. You may now cross the desert. Go South until you reach the mountains. Then go East and enter the town you discover. ANEAUX: Speak with everyone, accepting the tour, but don't sleep at his expensive inn. There is a Strength Seed in front of the center grave stone Wander around until night (Or use the Lamp of Darkness) then walk in and talk to the ghost. Now travel South to the next town. KONENBAR: Gather information as usual. There is a Small Medal in the first cabin's dresser of the boat to the West. There is another in the ship being built at the wharf in almost the same location. You can purchase Golden Barettes for the sisters here. You may want to return to Endor and drop off the Small Medals and the Symbol of Faith in the vault to free up your inventory. Now head East and follow the coastline North. Cross the bridge to the East and go South to the Lighthouse. LIGHTHOUSE: On the first floor you will find Taloon. He will ask you to destroy the monsters and extinguish the evil flame. Before going up the stairs, walk to the Eastern side of the North prong of the hidden area (You should see Taloon go through here as he leaves) enter and clean out the chests for a Luck Seed and some gold. Now go up the stairs to the second floor. Follow the path, avoiding the hole. Take the Southern path and follow it around the outside of the tower, avoiding holes and the edge of the tower. Skip the side path at first and take the Full Moon Herb in the chest to the North. Now return to the side path and take it. Take the stairs you find here to the third floor. Take the Fire of Serenity form the chest in the center of the floor Take the Northeastern stairs to the fourth floor. Walk to the West and enter the hidden area from the Western side to obtain a Golden Barrette from the chest. Now walk South and make your way to the center of the floor. Attack the Flamers first, then work on the Bengal. Finally walk North and use the Fire of Serenity in front of the evil flame. Now walk South and fall off the tower. Return to Konenbar. Walk to the Wharf and talk to Taloon. You now have access to a sailing ship. Put Taloon into your party, replacing Hector. Taloon has acquired some fascinating abilities during his journey which are both useful and amusing. Take Taloon's advice and sail South. Follow the coastline East and you should see a town to the South. Get out of the boat and enter the town. MINTOS: Gather information. There is a Small Medal on the West side of the well. Sell any extra items you may be carrying. Buy Swords of Malice for the Hero and Taloon. Buy Full Plate Armor for the Hero. Buy Iron Helms for Taloon and the Hero. Buy an Iron Shield for Nara. Now go talk to the old man teaching the class. Answer "no" to his first question and then take his quiz. You will receive the Treasure Map. Use the Treasure Map to see where you are in the world. Now go upstairs in the inn and talk to Brey. He will join your party. Exit town and head for your boat. Sail East along the shoreline until you see open ocean above you. Now turn North and follow the shore to your West. When you turn West around the peninsula, sail North. There will be an island with a shrine on it to your West. Enter this shrine and talk to the King. He will take your Small Medals. He will then show you a list of goods. Trade for the Staff of Punishment and equip Nara with it. Now either sail back or just Return to Mintos. At the spot where you first turned North, keep following the coastline to the East. It will turn South. Eventually you will see a castle in the West. SORETTA: Gather information. You will discover that the medicine you need to help Cristo has been destroyed by drought. A seed is in the Southern cave, but the people can't get in because of monsters. Head South for the cave. CAVE OF THE PEDEQUIA: Enter the cave with the Hero, Taloon, Nara, and either Brey or Mara Brey could probably use the XP, but his defense power is weaker than Mara's His offensive magic seems to be more effective, however. It's up to you. The arrow blocks move you magically at a high rate of speed (chutes and ladders anyone?) Take the Southern set to reach the chest. Take the Agility Seed within and take the other arrow to exit the alcove. Now head South and go down the stairs to reach the second floor. You will see Alena traveling with another party, but don't worry about it. Head North and take the arrow blocks farthest West. Follow the dirt path North and take the Mystic Acorns from the chest. Hit the arrow blocks to your West. Walk South and take the Western set of arrow blocks when you see the twin sets. Walk North past the statues and turn West. Go through the door to the South and take the Robe of Serenity from the chest. Equip either Mara or Brey with this, whoever is in your party at the moment. Head North back through the door and back to the East. Past the statues, you will see a chest. Look at the arrow blocks carefully and hit the correct ones to take you to the chest. Empty out the gold from the chest, then take the short set of arrow blocks and head South. Take the same set of arrow blocks you did before, but head East this time. Carefully avoid the arrow blocks to reach the stairs. Walk North until you can go no farther without touching arrow blocks. Take the arrow block the farthest to the East. After exiting the arrow blocks, avoid them for a while and head West. When you reach the last arrow block to the South, step on it. The chest you see to the South is a Man-Eater chest. It is a very dangerous critter and not worth a whole lot for defeating. Head Southward two steps and hit the block to the East. Take the Pedequia Seed from the chest. Now exit the cave. Return to Soretta and talk to the King. You plant the seed and the plant grows instantly. The King then gives you the Pedequia Root. Return to Mintos and use the Pedequia Root on Cristo. Alena and Cristo will now join your party. A man will give you information regarding Ragnar. If there is any equipment Alena and Cristo need, purchase it for them. Hector will leave your party when you exit town. Cristo can use the Iron Helmet. Buy Alena a Golden Barrette. Change your party to include the Hero, Alena, Cristo, and one of the others. (Whoever needs XP) If Nara is not in the party, have her trade weapons with Cristo so that the Staff of Punishment will be available for use. Return to Endor. Sail South, use the Treasure Map to see the continent to the South you are heading for. You will pass several small islands and finally locate Haville. Pick up some information here, and head South to Castle Keelon. You can't get into the castle, but you will find Healie, who has got his wish and become human. He tells you Ragnar is trapped in the castle. Head South to Kievs. At the inn you will find a traveling merchant. Purchase the Battle Axe and Iron Mask for the Hero. Buy a Cloak of Evasion for either Mara or Brey, whoever doesn't have the Robe of Serenity. Gather some information. You'll discover that Orin had a secret laboratory in the Western cave. Head for there. CAVE WEST OF KIEVS: Take the same path you used in Chapter 4 to reach Orin. Search the chest where you found the Lamp of Darkness. Press the button you find here and go down the stairs which appear. There is a Small Medal in the Westmost jar. Walk over and take the Magic Key from the chest. Now it's time to go treasure hunting. Drop off the Thieve's Key in the Vault. You only need the best key you have since it will open the less complicated locks. Take all your Small Medals out of the Vault. You can now reach a shop which sells powerful armor in Endor, though you'll likely not have enough money for it now. Enter the Castle and take the stairs down. Walk to the square behind them and face the wall Then use the door command. Go up the stairs you discover and keep climbing Fall off the top of this tower and you will land on top of the special armor shop. Climb down the stairs. Climb down the stairs behind the shopkeeper and take the chests. They are the Multi-Edge Sword and a Strength Seed. Exit by falling off behind the shopkeep. Then go upstairs to the dressing room of the King and Princess at night. It's difficult to do, so keep trying. Take the two chests which contain the Pink Leotard and Feather Hat. There is also a small medal in the Easternmost dresser. Equip Alena with the Pink Leotard. Now make your way to Frenor. Here you will discover that Orin did not die and is upstairs at the Inn. There are some Mystic Acorns in the healer's garden. Head through Tempe to Surene. Go in the right door of the large building and go through the Magic Key door. You will discover a new shop here. The Staff of Force changes MP into attack power. Continue following the path and you will pick up some more information. There is a signpost out back. Step inside Santeem Castle for a moment to establish a Return here. Make your way to Burland Castle. (Be careful of the strong monsters around here) Go through the door and cross the damage area to the chests. If you have Stepguard, use it. Otherwise, just keep yourself good and healed up. The chests contain an Agility Seed, Lifeforce Nuts, Strength Seed, an Iron Helmet, and gold. Take a step inside Izmit to establish a return there while you're in the area. Now head to Small Medal Isle and trade in your Small Medals for a Hat of Happiness. Whichever of your healers is in the main party should always be wearing this. Now return to Haville, rest and recharge. KEELON CASTLE: Whichever healer you take in here should have the Healmore spell. Make your way to the secret room you found in chapter 4. You will see Ragnar, who will beat up his guards and enter the room. Ragnar holds off the guards while you Go fight Keelon. You will receive a suit of Full Plate Armor after defeating Keelon. Talk to Ragnar and he will join the party. Equip Ragnar with the Full Plate Armor. Then earn the money to acquire him the Iron Mask. Time to go treasure hunting again. Sail to the North of Haville. There is a tiny island alone amongst the open seas here. Go to the spot that is different in the center of the island. Walk into the shack. One of the jars here contains a Small Medal. Sail West of this island and then North when you reach the small islands. You will see a village soon. At night you will see a square of sand in the middle of the water. This is the location of the Stone of Drought. During the day you can go to the beach and retrieve it for use later. Put it in the vault if you want to free up your inventory. You can also locate a Small Medal in front of the lion statue during the day. Travel to the smallest Southern landmass on your map. It's almost in the center, sort of offset to the East. Look for a river leading into it from the North. Sail down the river taking the East fork when you come to it. You should enter Rivertown. Sail to the island at the center and get off the boat onto it. Walk to the Southernmost point and search for a Small Medal. Now teleport to Soretta. Walk North from Soretta and go on the West side of the craggy mountains when you see them. Keep going North and you will find a shrine. Walk along the outer edge of this shrine to the indented area behind it. All the way at the end of this indention search for a Small Medal. Now go to Small Medal Isle and trade in your 6 medals for a Sword of Miracles. Equip Ragnar with the Sword of Miracles. The sword steals HP and gives them to the wielder whenever it hits and doesn't kill the enemy. Keep Ragnar's Sword of Malice in his inventory, so that he will have a multiple attack weapon. Return to Santeem. Use your treasure map and sail for the landmass in the farthest Northwest area of the map. Sail to the foothills near the blocked river. Exit the boat and make your way toward the castle. STANCIA: A weapon shop at the South end of town only opens at night. They sell Swords of Lethargy. Search a jar in a house on the Eastern edge of town for a Small Medal. Search a dresser inside the Castle, the room has four beds, for another medal. The armor shop sells the Sacred Robe and Dragon Mail. Talk to the King. Unfortunately you will not be funny enough. Return to Montobaraba. Go to the showmaster's office and talk to the performer there. Panon will join the party. Return to Stancia and put Panon in the front of the party. After a short conversation you will be awarded the Zenethian Helm by the King. Equip this on the Hero now. Panon will leave your party as soon as you leave the castle. THE CASINO: Now might be a good time to do some gambling. Return to Endor and go to the Casino. If you don't have any coins, buy some. It will be a long drawn out process, but your goal is to earn 16000 coins. That's enough for 4 Meteorite Armbands. The best place to gamble and make real money is at the poker table. Save right before you begin playing. Then play poker, taking the double or nothing bets when you win. Every time you win a significant amount of coins, leave and go to the healer to save. If it begins to look hopeless that you will surpass the total number of coins you had at your previous save, then hit reset and start from the old save point. The Meteorite Armbands double your agility and will be a great boon from this point forward. Once you get the hang of it, and start making the max bet, the 16000 will not actually take that long to earn. I started with 550 coins and got to 18010 in about a half an hour. Of course I've beaten the game four times now and I'm an old card shark. Try to win about 2-4 thousand more than you need for the Armbands so you'll have a good start for later gambling. Use the Meteorite Armbands from the item menu to equip them. Then return to Santeem Castle. SANTEEM CASTLE: Before you go to face Balzack for the final time, you should up your offensive and defensive powers. The Mystic Dolls inside Santeem are worth a lot of gold, while the other creatures give good experience. Just don't talk to Balzack until you're ready to fight him! I recommend as your party for this venture the following-- Hero, Ragnar, Alena, Nara. Getting the Metal Babble Armor (found in Endor) for Nara would not be a bad idea. It will cost 15000 gold. The Dragon Mail in Stancia is not a bad idea for the Hero and Ragnar. Neither is the Sword of Lethargy for the Hero. The armor is 5200 and the sword is 8000. Whenever you're ready, go to the second floor and talk to Balzack. Be warned, this is a tough fight. I recommend at least 3/4 of your party, especially Nara so that she has Vivify, be level-20. Also load everyone up on medical herbs. Cast Fendspell on Alena at the beginning of the fight. You will have to heal her with medical herbs during the fight. Keep a close eye on everyone's HP because Balzack's shots are powerful. Balzack can be put to sleep by the Sword of Lethargy, though it doesn't always work. I got him to sleep long enough once so that he only got one shot off during the entire battle. Once you beat him, go downstairs and take the now unguarded chests. Inside them are a Strength Seed, the Flute of Uncovering, and the Magma Staff. Whichever one of your healers is in the main party should be equipped with the Magma Staff. Give the Staff of Punishment to the other. Teleport to Izmit. Sleep at the inn and you will have a strange dream. Now teleport to Konenbar and follow the coastline East. Past the Lighthouse, you will see a river going North. Follow this river until you see a town. ROSAVILLE: The weapon shop here carries the Dragon Killer, a powerful and useful weapon. Go to the tower and blow the Flute of Uncovering where you saw it being used in the dream. Go up into the tower. Your way will be blocked by a large warrior. Talk to him and the battle is joined. Defeating the Saro Knight will earn you back the Sphere of Silence. Keep this on whichever healer is in your main party. Talk to Rosa and the slime. You learn a little about Necrosaro and the Staff of Transform. Unfortunately, the Royal Crypt is sealed by a Final Key door, so you can't enter. Drop the Flute of Uncovering in the vault if you wish, then teleport to Burland Castle. Talk to the King and he will tell you something about the Zenethian Shield. Now go get into the boat, which is North on the river. Sail East on the river until you reach the lake. Sail down to the Southernmost point of the lake and exit the boat. Follow the edge of the mountains to your East. You will come to a path leading North which dead ends at a single mountain. Use the Magma Staff here to open a path and proceed to the castle. GARDENBUR: There is a Small Medal in a jar in the Southwest corner. Avoid the house just Northwest of the armor shop for now, talking to everyone else first. You can buy Mara the Pink Leotard here if she doesn't already have it. Go up the stairs and then immediately back down them. Walk North and a hidden path will be revealed to you. Take the stairs and receive the Fire Claw for Alena from the chest. Now go upstairs and finish talking to everybody. There is an agility seed in a dresser in the Northeast. Now finally enter the house you avoided earlier. You will see a man near one of the dressers. Talk to him. Check the dresser he was standing in front of. You'll be accused of burglary and taken to jail. A short while later a guard will escort you to the Queen. Don't admit you stole the Amulet (because you didn't!). Insist you didn't steal it. You will be given a chance to prove your innocence, but one of you will be kept as a hostage. They take Ragnar as a hostage. That's not going to work. Talk to the jailor and change the hostage to Mara or Brey. Now walk South and find the cave. CAVE SOUTH OF GARDENBUR: Head West first. Follow the path and go down the ramp. Then turn East and follow the path to a chest with a Small Medal. Backtrack and take the Western path this time. Follow it around the water North. Keep following the path as it turns East. Turn South at the first opportunity. Pass up both the ramps to the North and South for now, keep following the path, which leads to a chest containing an Agility Seed. Now backtrack to the two ramps and take the Northern one. Skip the path South for now and take the ramp just ahead. Go South and up another ramp leading to a chest containing gold, backtrack and take the Southern path you skipped. Keep following this path and it will lead you to a stairway. On the second floor take the Western ramp. Take the first available path South and follow it to a chest containing a Strength Seed. Then go East and take the twin ramps to the South. Go up the ramp you see in the West. Follow the path and take the ramp you see to the North. Then take the ramp just across from it. Head North to acquire an Iron Mask from the chest. Head far to the South to acquire a Dragon Shield from a chest. Equip this on Ragnar or the Hero. Backtrack all the way to the East. Go South when you reach the Eastern wall. There is only one path, so take it to the stairs down. On the third floor, talk to the sleeper and he runs. Block his escape and the fight begins. Bakor shouldn't be too hard to beat, especially if you have the Sphere of Silence to contain his spells. After the fight a guard will come in and drag Bakor away, telling you to return to the castle. Return to the castle and sell off any excess equipment, then go talk to the Queen. She will give you the Final Key to release your ally from jail. She'll suggest you visit Rosaville, but you've already beat her to the punch didn't you! Go into the jail and release your companion. Then go to the other basement and obtain the Zenethian Shield. Equip this on the Hero now. You have a new key, so go drop the old one off in the vault. Now it's time to go treasure hunting again! Teleport to Konenbar. Take the Sword of Decimation from the chest upstairs at the inn. Sell it since it's cursed. Teleport to Haville. Go downstairs into the jail. Search the pots (try not to think about what they must be used for) in the first and third cells for Small Medals. Teleport to Brancha and take the chests you find. They contain Mystic Acorns, a Small Medal, and gold. Treasure hunting now done, teleport to Rivertown. If you can afford it, and don't already have one, purchase a Dragon Killer for the Hero. You will also discover that a person is trying to build an airship. That would be nice to have, if only you had a gas lighter than air. Build up gold until you can afford the Dragon Killer, you're going to need it! Teleport to Endor and sail South to the shrine on a peninsula. This is the Royal Crypt. ROYAL CRYPT: The monsters in here, especially Dragonits, are very dangerous. So be sure to save before entering and fight with caution. This is a good area to earn XP since all party members, not just the first four, earn XP on the first floor. There are also Metal Babbles on the lower floors worth 10050 XP each. Open one of the Final Key doors and proceed North. Go through the break in the wall and descend the stairs. Head North and step on either of the arrow blocks. After you stop moving, take the nearby stairs to the third floor. Take either of the arrow blocks and go down the stairs to the fourth floor. Step on the arrow blocks. Take the Staff of Anti-Magic from the chest you see. Now follow the path to the West. The path will turn South. Follow it until you see a side path to the East. Follow this path, being careful not to step on any arrow blocks, and retrieve the Small Medal from the chest. Backtrack and follow the path South. You will reach the Southern wall and the path will turn East. Follow it, avoiding all arrow blocks. The path will turn North. When the path forks, take the Eastern dark path. Then use the stairs to ascend to the third floor. Follow the path, avoiding all arrow blocks. Avoid the North going side path and continue West. Continue to follow the path South past the statues. Go into the darkened area when the path turns East, then turn South. Follow the path as it turns West and take the Staff of Transform from the chest. Now exit the Crypt. Equip either Mara or Brey with the Staff of Anti-Magic. Head for Small Medal Isle. Trade in your Medals for another Sword of Miracles and give it to Taloon. Keep the Sword of Malice in his inventory so he'll have a multiple attack weapon. Return to Endor, rest and recharge, then save. Now teleport back to Rivertown. Head South to the shrine you see. Open the door and walk over in front of the statue. COLOSSUS: Ascend the huge ramp. North of the stairs going down you will discover a chest containing a Small Medal. Now take the stairs down. There is a chest of gold in the Southwest. The next set of stairs is in the Northeast. After attaining the gold, go up the stairs. You will see a set of stairs almost immediately, so use them. There is a chest containing an Agility Seed to the Southeast. Gather up this and then follow the path South. This will lead to the next set of stairs. The two Southern doorways to the enclosed area don't lead to any thing, so skip them. Take the first set of stairs you come to and walk out of the doorway to a chest containing the Demon Hammer. The go back down the stairs. Go around to the North and use the doorway into the enclosed area. Use the stairs you see here. Follow the path and go up the stairs, the treasure chest to the North is a dangerous Mimic. Fall out the West hole and keep following the path, using stairs when necessary. When you reach the top, walk forward to the levers and pull one. Then walk over and fall out one of the sides. Make your way West and follow the path as it curves North. Head West at the first opportunity to reach the Castle. DIRE PALACE: At first, just step foot in the castle. Then walk outside and use the return spell to the Dire Palace. Your wagon will be brought to you. At first, wander around avoiding the monsters. Don't talk to anyone or anything in the castle. Check one of the jars in the basement for a Small Medal. Return to the first floor and find the stairs up, then use them. Follow the path until you see a set of stairs down. Use these and follow the path out onto the castle grounds. Walk on the path which goes South of the lake and turn North, walking up against the trees. Go down the stairs you find here. The Northwest chest contains a Small Medal. The Northeast chest contains the Aeolus' Shield, which you should equip on Ragnar. The two Southern chests are dangerous mimics. Now retrace your steps and head back into the castle proper. Go South and walk off the opening in the wall. Walk East across the damage area and go down the stairs. Right in front of the tombstone are some Lifeforce Nuts. Now walk East and exit the castle. Walk back inside the castle and use the Staff of Transform until you become some kind of monster or animal. Not sure if you're a monster? Talk to someone in the castle. If they talk to you, you're a monster. Otherwise you'll have to kill them. Go to the top floor and follow the little green Mini Demon into the throne room. Talk to everyone and sit where you are instructed, then wait. You'll discover that something is happening at the Akemto mine. Seems like the next place to go. There are some things you will want to do before you go to the mine. Drop off the Staff of Transform, unless you want to play with it, at the vault because you will no longer need it. Sell off your excess equipment. You may want to upgrade your healers and Ragnar to Metal Babble Armor if you can afford it. Put Cristo in the front party, as you want him as your healer in Akemto. It would be a good idea for him to have the Magma Staff and the Sphere of Silence. Make sure your entire front party is wearing Meteorite Armbands. Now head for a cave North of Small Medal Isle. SHRINE OF BREAKING WAVES: Turn East upon sailing into this cave. The path will turn North and go between a large group of Stone Monoliths. Exit the boat when you pass the fourth such Monolith and walk West. You should discover a hidden entrance to the central cavern. There is a chest containing a Small Medal to the South. Head back to the boat and continue North. Stay on the water, as there is nothing to be found on the land to the sides. The stream will turn South, turn with it. Navigate your way through the Monolith maze to the exit in the West. Sail South to the cross shaped isle and take the stairs. Walk North and take the chests, which contain the Zenethian Armor and a Small Medal. Equip the Armor on the Hero and exit the cave. Sail to Small Medal Isle and acquire another Hat of Happiness for your other healer so you will not have to keep trading. Return to Endor and sell off excess equipment. Rest and save. If you don't already have the Stone of Drought in your possession, pick it up from the vault (or the Seaside Village if you never took it earlier). Now teleport to Konenbar and sail as if you were heading to Small Medal Isle. Once you turn North, you should see an inlet after a short distance. There should be foothills nearby. Exit the boat here and head North. Your map should show a lake to the West. That is where you are headed. Enter the cave, make sure the Stone of Drought is in the main party. CASCADE CAVE: If you have real trouble surviving, go earn some levels somewhere before proceeding. Follow the path up the large stairs. You should see a section of the water wall to the North which is different from the rest, about door sized. Stand in front of this spot and use the Stone of Drought to open a path. Proceed North through the door and grab the Sandglass of Regression from the chest. If you make a grievous error in a round, use this in the next to go back and correct it. Proceed onward through the next door and go down the stairs. Follow the path Northward. The path will branch North and South, take the South path. The path will branch again. Take the North path first to acquire a Small Medal from the chest there. Then backtrack and head South. Follow this path as it turns North, then East, then South down some stairs. Use the stairs you see to reach the next floor. Take the path South first. Skip the dead end East and continue South down the stairs to acquire the Mask of Corruption from the chest there. Now backtrack to the beginning of the floor. Take the path to the East this time. It will turn South down some stairs. You will see two sets of stairs, one to the North and one to the South. Take the Southern ones first and acquire GP from a chest there. Backtrack and take the Northern stairs. Follow this path until it branches. Take the Eastern path, the other is a dead end. Use the stairs at the end of the path to reach the next floor. Follow the path and take the Metal Babble Sword from the chest you discover here. Now exit the cave. Many of your party can be equipped with the Metal Babble Sword. I usually give it to Nara so that her damage becomes more compatible with the others, leaving the Magma Staff on Cristo. Return to Endor, get rid of excess items, dropping the Stone of Drought in the vault. You might also want to drop off your excess gold in the vault. Just keep about 1000 for inns. This way if you perish in your journeys you will not lose as much by being raised. Of course you can always cast the Alternate Reality Spell (Reset) to save your gold, but you will lose any items acquired after your last save. Allowing yourself to go ahead and die will let you keep the items you fought so hard for. Now it's time to head for Akemto, make sure Cristo is at least level-27! AKEMTO MINE: Follow the same path you did in chapter 4. Where the two miners were on the last floor, you will see a new passage is open. When you enter the new section, take the path which goes North. The Eastern one is a dead end. Take the first dark path to the East you come across. Head North at the next such path. Turn East when you see the dark path and use the stairs. Take the dark North path you see upon entering this area. Walk East out onto the peninsula. Search here for a Small Medal. Backtrack and head North. Skip the dark path to the West, continue North. Go through the dark doorway next to the fallen miner. Head North to the small building. Enter and step on the plate to recharge your HP and MP. Then head East and enter the dark doorway to the castle. Head North through the doorway. Search the first chest to the North for a Small Medal. The second chest is a dangerous mimic. The next chest contains gold. Follow the path South. The first chest in the Eastern room contains an Agility Seed. The second contains a Strength Seed. Now use the stairs to the South. Follow the path North, then East. Skip the first set of stairs and head South to the Stairs thee. Follow the path North, you will see two chests in a room to the West. The Westmost chest contains a Small Medal. The Eastern chest is a Mimic. You will see a chest being guarded by a Skeleton, but don't worry about it now because you can't get it. Head North and take the small dark doorway to the West. Follow the narrow path you find to the stairs. Climb up until you reach the platform where the three monsters before a throne. Talk to the soldier in the center and tell him "No, you will not leave". These critters shouldn't be hard to beat. Heal yourself and walk around for a while, recharging your healer's MP with the Hat of Happiness. You'll probably get in some fights, but you should be able to restore Cristo to a decent amount of magic points doing this. Don't walk directly in front of the throne while doing this. When you think you are read, walk in front of the throne and the battle begins. Just concentrate on beating Esturk with your weapon and keeping the party healed if it becomes necessary. You should win after a while. Turn to walk South and Necrosaro will appear. You will discover that Rosa has been kidnapped, the monsters will then leave. Now backtrack to the chest you couldn't get before. This chest contains the Gas Canister Take this and walk out of the castle. If you feel you need to, step on the recharge plate. Once you exit the cavern that Esturk's Palace lies in, your Exit spell will function once more. Return to Izmit and sleep at the inn to learn more about the kidnapping. The slime in the tower of Rosaville can tell you something as well, but it's not really important. You will also have to use the Flute of Uncovering if you want to go talk to the slime, so I usually skip it. Now return to Rivertown. Talk to the man who said he was building and airship. Let him look at the canister. Let him have it when he asks for it. Go sleep at the inn and then go back and talk to him again. He will give you a balloon. Sail South out of town and you will see the balloon. Return to Endor and drop off the Gas Canister in the vault. Sell off any excess items, and don't forget to save. Pick up your gold from the vault as well if you put any in. Make your way to Small Medal Isle and trade in your Medals for a Hat of Happiness and give this to one of your wizards, Mara or Brey. Use the balloon to get to Small Medal Isle so you can avoid attacks and take the most straight route there. Get back in the balloon and fly due South. You should fly over a desert with one block of trees in the center. Land the balloon and walk into this block. In the Northeast is a shop which sells Shields of Strength and Water Flying Clothes. If you can afford it, buy the Shield of Strength for Cristo. If you can afford it, buy the Water Flying Clothes for Mara and Brey, or buy Shields of Strength for Ragnar and/or the Hero. They shouldn't equip these shields, but if they are in your inventory you can use them to heal during battle. It's up to you and your pocketbook to decide. Talk to everyone in this area as well. Do not enter the tree yet. If you wish, teleport back to Endor and save your game now. It would be wise. Then return here. WORLD TREE: There are two ways to go about this, take a party of four and clean out all the treasure chests first, or just take a party of three and complete your quest in the tree. It's up to you. I usually clean out the place, then return with the Hero, Ragnar, and Cristo. Take the stairs in the Northwest and walk out onto the branch, being careful not to fall off. Walk out onto the leaves and search. You will find a Leaf of the World Tree. Anywhere you search that there are leaves here you will find one. You can only have one at a time however. Keep this in your Hero's inventory. If you ever use it, you can return here and get another. Now walk up and take the Staff of Healing from the chest. Put this in Alena's inventory. Now backtrack and take the other set of stairs on the first floor. Go South upon entering this level. Walk along the branches, don't fall off! Take the stairs you then reach. Take the path South first and use the stairs you find. Take the Dew of the World Tree from the chest you find here. If you had four people up here to rob the tree, now is the time to jump off and bring up a party of only three. Don't forget to bring the Staff of Healing with you. Now backtrack and take the Northern path. Walk all the way around the tree on the branches and use the stairs you find. Walk around tree on the branches on the South side of the tree walk up against the tree trunk. The branch which stretches out to the Southeast doesn't go anywhere. The stairs are on the Northeast branch. Walk on the branches to the center of the tree. Talk to the person here and she'll join your party if you offer to take her to Zenethian Castle. On the leaves to the Southeast lies a chest containing the Zenethian Sword. Take this and jump off the tree. If you equip the Zenethian Sword on the Hero, his attack power will go down. This will change eventually. It's up to you if you wish to equip it. If you've got enough money, go back to the shop and buy some more of the fine equipment here. Taloon can be equipped with the Shield of Strength. Don't forget that anyone can carry a Shield of Strength and use it to heal in battle whether they can equip it or not. However, you also need to have open slots in your inventory to acquire new items. Now is the time when powerful items must be balanced against available space. Teleport to Endor and do your standard cleaning up of inventory, rest and save. Jump in the balloon and fly East until you see a peninsula covered in foothills. The Brancha side of Taloon's cave is located here as well. If you flew due East you will only see a faint coastline. Fly a little North to verify your location. Fly South from the Eastern side of the peninsula and you will see a Y shaped island. Land on this island. It will immediately expand into a much larger area. Walk North from the balloon, then turn East and walk between the mountain ranges. (The Northern one will enclose a large cave) Turn South when you can and enter the town. GOTTSIDE: Gather information. There is a Small Medal in the Northeast basement house. It is inside the Eastern dresser. Head South then East around the mountains and make your way to the Shrine up in the desert. SHRINE OF THE HORN: Walk North and take the stairs. Walk around the U and take the stairs. Walk to the elevator and ride it up. Go back down the stairs. Walk back around the U and use the stairs. Now use the stairs which were revealed by the elevator's rise. Walk North and obtain the Dress of Radiance. Equip Alena with this dress. Go back up the stairs. Make your way back to the first floor and fall down the hold. Walk South to the stairs. Obtain the Baron's Horn from the chest and exit the Shrine by falling in the small hole on the floor above and making your way back to the first floor. Now return to Gottside and do standard town business. Put the Baron's Horn in the inventory of someone who is not in the lead party for now. Now make your way back to the balloon. Go East from the balloon, walking on the South side of the mountain range. Turn South and walk through the swamp around the Southern edge of the mountains. Enter the tower you see here. ZENETHIAN TOWER: Walk to the Western stairs and use them. Avoid the ramp to the South and follow the path to a chest containing a Magic Potion. Backtrack to the first floor and use the Eastern stairs. Take the short ramp into the doorway. Acquire Mystic Acorns from the chest here, then exit the room. Now take the longer ramp to the West and follow the path up. The Southeastern stairs go nowhere. Take the Southwestern stairs and follow the path to a chest containing a Small Medal. Backtrack and take the stairs in the North this time. Follow the path until you reach an area with stairs to the South and a ramp/doorway to the North. The Northern path goes nowhere, so take the Southern stairs. On this floor you will see a ramp and a set of stairs up. Take the ramp first and follow the path to a chest containing the Mysterious Bolero. Now backtrack and use the stairs. Follow the path until you see a carpeted rectangle to the East. Head East and follow the path to a chest containing a Dragon Shield. Backtrack to the beginning of the floor and head West, then North. Go around the columns and walk on the carpeted path. Follow this until it's end and go around the columns toward the North. The path to the stairs should be obvious. Climb these stairs and the next set. Now make sure all your Zenethian items are equipped and head North to stand on the platform. A cloud will arrive and transport you to Zenethian Castle. If you did not already have Lucia in your party, take a step inside the castle and immediately back out. Put Lucia in the party. Now walk back inside the castle and Lucia will thank you, then leave the party. ZENETHIAN CASTLE: Talk to everyone as usual. A demon looking creature will give you some more Dew of the World Tree. You can find a Small Medal in a dresser in the next room. Talk to Lucia in the basement and she will send the baby dragon Doran to join your party. Enter the large doors and talk to Master Dragon. He will grant you some XP and power up the Zenethian Sword. Equip the Hero with the Zenethian Sword. (For some reason the powering up process un-equips it) You may now use this as an item in battle to dispel spells creatures have cast upon themselves. (such as upper, bounce, etc.) Master Dragon tells you to go to the cave and head for Necrosaro, but let's wait a while shall we? If you want to, equip the Mysterious Bolero you found in the tower on one of your magic users. It doesn't protect as well as the Water Flying Clothes, but it does reduce the amount of MP a caster uses to cast a spell. Now return somewhere and do standard town business. Then make your way to Small Medal Isle and cash in for a Hat of Happiness. Equip this on the remaining magic user without one. You might also want to gamble for a couple of Wizard's Rings for your healers. Perhaps Meteorite Armbands for the rest of the party as well. Metal Babble Shields aren't such a bad idea either (Especially for Nara) These aren't really necessary, they just make things easier and safer. If you don't have much luck gambling, don't worry about them. Return to Zenethian Castle and walk out the door in the basement where you found Doran. Drop through the hole in the clouds to reach the cave below. PERILOUS CAVE: If you encounter a Master Malice within this cave, use the Zenethian Sword's new power against him once he casts upper. Walk North a while and you should encounter a chest containing the Dress of Radiance behind a door. Equip this on a Wizard. Exit the room and head West. Turn North and follow the path until you reach some stairs and a path to the West. Take the path West. Within this area you can find a chest containing a Small Medal. Now exit this cavern and take the path South. Follow this until you reach another set of stairs with a path to the West and head West. In this cavern acquire the Staff of Jubilation from a chest in the West. I usually hand this staff to Brey, but don't equip it, because it is not a powerful as the Staff of Antimagic. The treasure chest to the South in the swamp is a Mimic. You should have no trouble finding the stairs up in this area, use them. Don't step on the arrow blocks. Walk around the hole and head South. You will see twin sets of arrow blocks. Take the ones furthest West and ride to a chest containing the Demon Armor. Walk East to where the two sets of arrow blocks going opposite directions are. Take the Northern ones. Use the stairs you discover. The four chests you discover contain: Lifeforce Nuts, Agility Seed, Strength Seed, and Gold. Take them and use the stairs down in the Southwest corner. Get in the boat. There is a chest in the swamp all the way in the Northwest corner containing Lifeforce Nuts. A chest in the South contains Water Flying Clothes. An island has the stairs down to the next level. Follow the simple path to the stairs. Go through the door to enter the shrine. King Metals and Metal Babbles populate this shrine in great numbers. It's a great place to gain XP. Follow the path to the hole and fall in it. Take the Mirror Shield from the chest and equip it on Cristo. Fall in the hole then go up stairs again and acquire Lifeforce Nuts from the chest. Head back down and make your way out of the shrine. When you exit the shrine, you will see another one right next to it. Enter this shrine and walk forward to the flame. Talk to the Zenethian who will recharge you and give you some information. She tells you to break the barriers, but let's wait. Teleport to a town and perform town business. Make your way to Small Medal Isle and claim another Staff of Punishment for the healer without one. Now return to the last Refuge. I would recommend leveling up a bit before continuing on. The best place to do this is within the shrine with all the metal critters. Several items and party members abilities are useful in attempting to kill these wily and aggravating creatures. If Mara has the Bedragon spell, she will learn to chant it, doing damage to all creatures present. Doran's breath weapon also accomplishes this. The Mirror Shield and Dress of Radiance will reflect spell damage back on the caster, as will the bounce spell. This is the best chance you have to defeat a King Metal, letting him kill himself. The Metal Babble Sword always hits for 2 points of damage against these critters. Form a babble slaying party and head into the shrine. Don't forget the metal critters aren't the only thing in there, make sure your party is strong enough to survive. Save and recharge often at the Last Refuge. Make sure Cristo has learned the Revive spell. It might also not be a bad idea to get the Hero the Healusall spell as well. Whenever you think you're ready, it's time to break those barriers. There are four of them. One NW one SW one NE and one SE. You may want to return to the Last Refuge and save after beating each boss to rest and save your game. Take them in whatever order you choose. SOUTHWEST SHRINE: There is a path through the trees to your West. Use it to reach the stairs. The first set, which you cannot avoid, go nowhere. Go back up them and take the other stairs down. Upon entering this floor take 4 steps North. Then take 3 steps West. Then take 1 step North, 1 step West. Walk North to the wall and then go to the doorway. Have Mara cast Stepguard and go through the doorway. (If you happen to mess up and touch one of the statues on this floor, they will throw you out. If you mess up, exit the floor and this trap will reset itself.) Use the stairs. Walk North to the boss. Check the floor or not, it doesn't matter, a fight will ensue. Just beat on the Gigademon and heal the party if you feel the need to. Once you beat him, one of the shields will break. Exit the shrine. NORTHWEST SHRINE: This is simple, just walk to the boss. Just beat on the Infurnus Shadow as you did the Gigademon. You will obtain a Sword of Miracles after beating this boss and one of the shields will break. Equip the Sword of Miracles on Cristo and hand the Magma Staff to one of the magic users. SOUTHEAST SHRINE: You should have little trouble making your way through this simple maze to the boss. Lightening seems to do some good against the Anderougs. Otherwise, just beat on them as you did against the other two. One of the barriers will break when you defeat him. NORTHEAST SHRINE: This is simple too. The Northeastern stairs lead to a chest which contains the Zombie Mail. The Southwestern stairs lead to the boss. Don't be fooled by his innocent appearance. As much as you might like to, don't use lightening to destroy the Demighouls until Radimvice is dead. He reflects spells back at you. Just keep beating on him until he croaks. A shield will break when you defeat him. The four barriers destroyed, return to some town and do your town business. Then return to the Last Refuge and head for the castle. Save here if you didn't in town! NECROSARO'S PALACE: Walk North through the doorway. The next doorway is in the Northeast. Follow the simple path to the stairs. Walk out the doorway. Follow the path until you reach the room with the flame. The stairs which go down lead to a Small Medal (far in the South edge of the swamp) Take the stairs up to continue onward. Follow the path through the doorways to the elevator. Go past it and use the stairs up. Between the 2nd and 3rd set of paired statues (count from the West) is a hidden passage to the North to take. Follow the simple path to the Sage's Stone. Make sure this is in your main party from this point forward Now backtrack all the way out of the secret area. In the Southeast of the room where you found the secret passage is a doorway. Follow this path to chests containing a Staff of Thunder and Lifeforce Nuts. I usually hand off the Staff to Brey but don't equip it. Backtrack now all the way to the elevator and use it. Go South from the elevator and follow the path to a set of stairs up. Use them and walk over and ride the elevator down. Go back and use the stairs again. Walk to the stairs in the North, which you can now reach and use them. Follow the path until you reach a spot on the roof with a doorway in the dead center North. If you are ready for the final battle, make sure the Baron's Horn is in your front party and go through the door. If you aren't, just walk out the doorway and cast Return to somewhere and finish preparing. THE FINAL BATTLE: Use the Baron's Horn to call the wagon. Then head toward the mountain in the middle of the swamp. Walk up the path and you will see Necrosaro on a throne. Heal yourself to max and walk around until your healer (I recommend Cristo) has recharged to max MP. Don't walk right in front of the throne! Just beat on Necrosaro. Be prepared with the Healusall spell if it becomes necessary. If your healer dies, get them out of the party and replace them with the other. Don't waste time trying to revive one unless they both die. Cristo will take care of anyone else who dies if he's in the party. Nara will too, but she's not as effective. Likewise, get a healer who has no MP out of the party. I was able to beat him pretty easy with the Hero, Ragnar, Alena, and Cristo. The levels were 38,39,38,34 in the same order as the names were listed. And this was without any Wizard's Rings or Metal Babble Shields from the casino. Make your way out of Zenethian Castle and watch the ending. Talk to everyone on the way out of the castle.
