Addendums may be added, but I would prefer that any such addendums be sent to me so that they may be included in the Main FAQ and updated wherever it is hosted and posted by me. Do *NOT* however, attempt to use this FAQ for any lame purpose like making money off of it in any way. As time permits me, there will be an online version of this document with descriptive pictures available at my website, the Goblin's Domain (listed top). You may find other useful Castlevania tidbits there as well. This FAQ is simply a list of the secret items in the game Castlevania 1 for the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). It may be useful for other versions of the game, should such be released (For Color Gameboy, for example) but such is not guranteed unless noted here. This is every secret item I have located in the game. I *do* believe there are more, as there are entire areas where I have yet found none. Unlike other Castlevania 1 Documents, I have arranged this FAQ to be broken up by the "Stages" as shown on the screen while playing. That means there are 18. The approach and hall of Dracula is shown as Stage-18 on the onscreen display. Most people choose to break this game into 6 stages, related to the bosses which inhabit each. I chose to do it this way, simply because it allows an easier way to divide the document and have it easy to understand where I'm talking about in the text version. Just look in the upper right corner of the screen and you'll see the "Stage" listing. That being clarified, here are the secret item locations. Please note that these are only for the *first* play through of the game. I know for sure that some of the items (if not necessarily the locations) change if you beat Dracula and continue playing through the game again. One changes to an Easter Island statue, for example. Also note, that where I have "Double Shot" listed, if you already *have* the Double Shot, it will be a Triple Shot instead. If you already have the Triple Shot, it will be replaced with a Heart. **************** *** STAGE 01 *** **************** (1) The first secret item is located in the very first screen of the game, just before you enter the Castle. It is also one of the more difficult to obtain. You must head toward the door to the castle, but at the last moment jump past it. You have to time this jump *very* carefully. You should jump just before Simon's foot reaches the darkness that indicates the door. If you do this part properly, the secret item will appear a ways off to the left. If you do it wrong, Simon will make his way into the castle automatically and you will not be able to try again until you restart the game. Once the secret item appears, you must repeat the difficult jump in reverse. It is best to walk all the way to the right side of the screen once the item appears in order to give you proper distance and timing to make the return jump... because if you cut it too quick, or too slow, Simon will turn and walk into the castle automatically as before. He will walk right off and leave the item sitting there =P If you manage to pull off both jumps, collect the Money Bag, worth 1000 pts., and *then* enter the castle. (2) In the next screen, you will encounter lots of zombies. After them, there are a series of platforms and stairs raised from the floor. Black Panthers inhabit these platforms. Once you reach the final of these platforms, go past it and turn back around. Whip the last block of the last platform for a Money Bag worth 400 pts. **************** *** STAGE 02 *** **************** (1) In the first screen of this stage, you will be forced to go down toward a brick wall on the bottom right side of the screen. Whip this brick wall twice to reveal the meat. (2) Once you have acquired the meat in #1, you go down some stairs to the mermen. Go to the far right side of the mermen's lair. You will see a platform below, which you can't reach because it is blocked by the platform above it. Whip the bricks on the platform blocking you, and then climb down onto this platform. Have Simon kneel, and you should see the secret item appear on the platform above where all the mermen are jumping up to. Collect the Money Bag worth 1000 pts. **************** *** STAGE 03 *** **************** (1) In the room with the Vampire Bat Boss, the far right block of the lowest platform can be broken for a secret item, the Double Shot. **************** *** STAGE 04 *** **************** (1) In the first screen of this stage, ascend the first set of stairs you come to. Once at the top, whip the wall to the right. Whip out a hole of two blocks for Simon to walk into, then do so. The secret item should then appear on the floor below. Go collect the Crown worth 2000 pts. (2) Once you have ascended into the next area (screen blinks), you will see a Spear Knight walking back and forth in a small area. Kill this Knight, then jump up and whip the top right block standing where the Knight was. You'll reveal the secret item, a Double Shot. **************** *** STAGE 05 *** **************** (1) You'll come to a platform about 3 blocks long with a Spear Knight pacing back and forth on the other side of it. Stand on the platform for about 3 seconds and a secret item should appear back where you came from to the right, a Treasure Chest worth 2000 pts. (2) In the next area, past the Medusa Heads, you will see two Spear Knights pacing back and forth close together, but on different platforms. Whip the highest platform of two blocks to reveal the meat. **************** *** STAGE 06 *** **************** (1) The first item in this stage is right at the beginning. Walk forward and down the first "step" of blocks. Then turn around, kneel, and whip the block to reveal the meat. (2) The next item is at the far left edge of the screen, past the deadly spikes. It can be found near the stairs going up and right that take you back the way you came on a higher level. Whip the blocks at the bottom of the stairs to reveal the Double Shot. **************** *** STAGE 07 *** **************** (1) In the first screen of this stage, you encounter Toadies on raised platforms. Whip the platform the second of these Toadies starts out from for Meat. (2) When you begin encountering Ravens (there are 3 or 4 in a row on platforms) you will come to an area where there is a platform 4 blocks long down low on the screen, going nowhere apparantly. Make your way down to this platform, and to the last brick on it. Kneel to reveal the Money Bag worth 1000 pts. **************** *** STAGE 08 *** **************** (1) You will go through the first screen of this stage entirely. The second screen starts at the top of some stairs. You will be on a platform that dead ends in a drop to the left. Make your way right until you are approximately halfway between the first two candles on this screen. Kneel here to reveal the Money Bag worth 1000 pts. **************** *** STAGE 09 *** **************** (1) All the way at the end of this stage, where the two Mummy bosses are, is where you will find the secret item in this stage. There are blocks forming "steps" down to the floor where the mummies are in the final room. If you whip the bottom "step" you will reveal some meat. (2) There's another secret item right here in the same place... problem is... there's no way to get to the thing!!! LOL Stand on the block right above the left mummy, then walk left against the block for a few seconds to make the illusive and annoying money bag appear. **************** *** STAGE 10 *** **************** [[None Found]] **************** *** STAGE 11 *** **************** [[[None Found]] **************** *** STAGE 12 *** **************** (1) The first Dragon Skeleton you come to is where the first item is. Whip the block the Dragon Skeleton is anchored to and you'll reveal the meat. (2) Suprise! The second secret item is in the anchor block of the second Dragon Skeleton. It is a Big Heart. **************** *** STAGE 13 *** **************** (1) Pass through the first screen of this stage. In the second screen, make your way past the two bone throwing Skeletons.

You will be near some stairs going down toward a Blood Skeleton (red skeleton). Walk right into the wall for a few seconds near the top of these stairs to reveal a 1Up!! (2) Now descend the stairs toward the Blood Skeleton. About half way down the stairs, whip the blocks in the wall up and right. It's 2 wide by 4 high. You should reveal a money bag (3) The next item in this stage is right near the door to exit it. There is a raised platform in the floor two blocks high. Whip the top left brick of this raised platform to reveal the Meat. **************** *** STAGE 14 *** **************** (1) After using the first set of stairs that go down, go to the right into the little hollow and wait for a few seconds to make a money bag appear. (2) After getting the money bag, continue to the right where you will see an Axe Knight near some stairs up and right. Climb these stairs, then whip the wall to the right to reveal a Double Trouble. (3) Go to the right past this area to the next set of stairs leading up (two blood skeletons are nearby and there's an Axe Knight up above. Head past the bottom of the stairs and stand right next to the wall for a few seconds to make the money bag appear. (4) Now use those stairs up. Jump to the right platform when you reach the top where the Axe Knight is. Walk all the way across this platform and jump off onto the two blocks out by themselves to make another money bag appear. **************** *** STAGE 15 *** **************** (1) There is a set of stairs up and right that go off screen in this stage. There is a Blood Skeleton patroling near them. Walk past the bottom of the stairs and whip the wall to the right to reveal the Meat. **************** *** STAGE 16 *** **************** [[None Found]] **************** *** STAGE 17 *** **************** (1) When you encounter the first set of gears, you are near the first item in this stage. Jump down to the wall down and right from the top gear. Whip this wall to reveal the Meat. (Provided you can stay alive long enough to do so with the annoying Birds and Toadies here) (2) The next item is in the next screen of gears. Make your way to the top and kneel on the top gear. You'll want to kneel on the right side of it, but not on the edge of it. You should see the secret item appear, which is a Money Bag worth 1000 pts. **************** *** STAGE 18 *** **************** [[None Found]] @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@ AFTERWARD @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ You can probably see what I mean now about how I do *not* believe this is every hidden item in the game. It was entirely too consistant in the beginning (where I had explored most thoroughly.... as I died trying to learn how to play the game LOL) to find exactly *two* hidden items in each and every stage. Also, every stage having a hidden item in it... and then suddenly, Stages 10 and 11 both have none? Then alla sudden there's 3 and 4 in the later levels? Needless to say, I suspicious I haven't found everything.... but I'm still looking. I was just happy when I finally found those two in Stage 17.... Cripes those birdies an' toadies were about to drive me outta my bloody mind. I'm suspicious that there are secret items hidden where you are crossing the long broken bridge..... being attacked by Vampire Bats like the first boss. Just haven't tried to check, as it's far too easy to die here. I'm just happy to make it *past* this area, let alone explore it.
